Rear Sway Bar

i sent some emails out and here is what i have heard back so far,

helwig says they do not make anything for the AWD.

tfent says they do have a rear bar for the AWD, but they were not vary familiar with the awd application or why there wasn't a front upgrade available. ( i get the feeling its a repackaged helwig as they said some of their products are off the shelf helwig and others are designed by tfent and manufactured by helwig)

I have yet to hear back from boulderoffroad, my email has been sitting there for 7 days now.

if i dont hear back from boulder i may order the Hellwig 7623 (1-1/8") and give it a try. since its $289 with free shipping, and they are good with returns so if it doesnt fit i should be able to just send it back.

I also put new wheels and tires on. 265/50 x 20 all terrains. went to a 20 inch wheel with 0 offset. the wheel and tire package has helped a decent amount in taking some of the roll out. no rub through the range of motion.

I have had the Hellwig 7623 1 1/8" bar on my AWD 1500 Van for a short time, it works well and seems like a good match to the front. It was easy to install just drill two holes in the frame on each side and slide the threaded plate into the frame, it has a fishwire on it.

These Van's handling and ability to maintain composure on terrible roads has been impressive since my first test drive, the rear swaybar makes it even more like a normal daily driver. The straight line stability has always been great with the 1500's rack and pinion steering, the ability to stay in your lane is about as good as it gets even when it's a little windy, now it's like that when it's really windy too.

I also have the Hellwig 7623 on my AWD, and my experience has been the same. Bolts in same as 2wds and makes cornering on mountain roads much better.

Has anyone figured out how to add factory remote start? Or is that not possible and I'm stuck looking at aftermarket systems? My van has factory keyless entry (LT trim).

I was wondering about this as well. i need to do some calling around, but i would imagine the remote start from the silverado's should work

For a Silverado, you can look in the glove box for RPO codes. AP3 will = remote start factory installed and AP8= remote start ready. "Remote start ready" means visit the dealer and buy kit with two fobs and a code. The code is for GM. GM will sends the dealer a reflash for your computer. You can also order the kit online. Might not apply to vans but ya never know

No affiliation but this site seems to know what's up with factory remote start and lists Express fitments

I didn' have it done, but when I was talking to the GM service tech who flashed my van for cruise control he said they add it all the time. For 2008 plus vans with keyless entry all you need is the different key fobs and a dealer flash. If I recall corectly he said it was $250 for everything.

That would be great if it's that cheap and easy! I'll stop in to the local dealer and ask them about it.

All 4 extended Bilstein shocks and suburban springs are ordered. I have the Traxda Kit that I bought awhile back but never installed. I should be lifted in a week. I can hardly wait. I have a set of BFG AT 275/70/17s waiting to go on too. Thanks for all the help and info.

Hey all - just picked up my 2008 Savana AWD after getting a new transfer case installed. It was blowing ATF out the vent tube which indicates a front seal failure that allows ATF from the tranny to overfill the t-case. Sometimes it is caused by the front bushing spinning in the case also (this was the issue here).

I want to give a heads up to a known issue with the BW 4473 t-case in these rigs. Although they seem trouble free in the various AWD threads here, they are somewhat notorious in general among transmission specialists. Apparently there is a design flaw that can result in a lack of lubrication of the front input and rear output bearings/bushings . GM released a service bulletin in which the t-case is first filled through the filler plug, then the electronic speed sensor is removed from the case and one extra quart of ATF is added. This apparently addresses the issue. The replacement t-case actually came with this service bulletin. TSB # 08-04-21-004 issued April 16 '08.

They did a filter/fluid on the tranny also and said it looked great so I'm happy with that. I bought the van at a gov. auction for a decent price with 140k mileage.

It was tempting to do a t-case swap for 4wd selectable but it just wasn't going to happen right now and I've also heard that the AWD is optimal for snow driving which is the primary traction requirement for this rig.

Thanks to all for the great threads about these rigs and looking forward to posting as I build it out a bit.

I stopped in to my local dealer and they said there was no kit listed (like there is for trucks) so no way to do it he knew of. Will have to try a different dealer I guess.

That's what they told me about the cruise control on mine. I insisted it could be done and finally the service manager let me talk to one of the techs who looked into and we made it happen. It took a couple calls to GM to figure it out.

I believe that and am not surprised. I've got to see if I have any friends of friends that are Chevy techs. Just a matter of finding the right tech with a little curiosity!

I just installed a kit from eBay that's plug and play. Installed in about 15 minutes and uses the factory remote. Just hit lock 3 times and it fires right up. I'll try to find a link, but it's from a car security shop in CA.
