Sorry if this is a repost. Worth another look, anyway.

I was wondering about the second snorkel as well.

Any relation to the actor?? Nice kit!

The extra snorkel (and the dashboard name badge) was added by the guy who bought and sold the truck from LR and serves no purpose other than to balance up the look of the truck. It's a 300Tdi BTW.

The insulation was a factory addition since the truck was originally built for Fiennes' Transglobal expedition across the Arctic that was cancelled when BMW took over at LR and pulled the plug on the finance.

It (and the other trucks built for the Transglobal trip) were then painted gold for Land Rovers 50/50 expedition that celebrated land Rovers 50th Anniversary in 1998. It never went on that trip either!

In 2000, he attempted to walk solo and unsupported to the North Pole. The expedition failed when his sleds fell through weak ice and Fiennes was forced to pull them out by hand. He sustained severe frostbite to the tips of all the fingers on his left hand, forcing him to abandon the attempt. On returning home, his surgeon insisted the necrotic fingertips be retained for several months (to allow regrowth of the remaining healthy tissue) before amputation. Impatient at the pain the dying fingertips caused, Fiennes removed them himself (in his garden shed) with a fretsaw which didn't work so he picked up a Black & Decker in the "village" with a micro blade and cut them off just above where the blood & the soreness was.[1][4]

I once cut my own cast off, because I thought my arm was healed and was tired of wearing it, and I thought I was a ************! :D

LOL! I once had to pack my own open wound for about a week while it was healing from the inside out. But cutting off my own necrotic fingers...

I believe there were eight of these vehicles kitted for that famed trip. I remember talking to a guy some time back about them. He had several of them in his garage/warehouse. I think I still have some of those pics on one of my external drives.

Here's a kid who bought one and traveled around the world in it. He started the trip with a few of his friends piled in the back like cord wood. And no windows. They went home early..??
I imagine they're linked off of his site somewhere but there are some pretty cool videos out there of him tackling jungle track with his locally hired, armed (AK47) escort.

I have his book "To the Ends of the Earth", which I had totally forgotten about until now. I picked it up used, stuck it away and forgot all about it. I'll have to dig it out. May be a good read.
