Just a heads up that you can pick up a Yaesu FT-250R 2 meter HT for about $110 right now. Retailers such as Universal Radio sell this model for about $140, and Yaesu has a $30 rebate going on for purchases made through the end of March.

Reviews on this model are running 4.9 out of 5.0 on eHam.net

I picked up two to put in our get home bags that we keep in each of our cars.

I thought about getting this, but was swayed by the Yaesu VX-6's higher power on wider frequency spectrums, waterproof construction and thinner Li-ion battery back and better form factor as a result. I hope it's a good choice. Anyone use one? Historically, I have been unable to intuitively program HAM radios. I looked at the two brands of Chinese radios and have found them solid, but difficult to program. I am hoping this VX-6 is easier to use

I have a VX-7R and this little radio amazes me with it's performance and battery life. I does work a lot better with a longer aftermarket antenna though (I use a Diamond SRH77CA). I wouldn't say it's difficult to program manually, but it may not be intuitive either. As with all Yaesu radios, the directions are good but you must follow them exactly and explicitly, to the letter.
