We recently had the opportunity to utilize a group camp that was reserved in advance in the Big Bear area of Southern California. It turned out to be a good time with good friends and a great weekend in the local mountains.

Thank you all for reading, we really do appreciate it.

One of my favorite "secret" spots in Big Bear.
Did you check out the spring about 100 yards before the campground?

San Bernardino National Forest administers this area. Here's a link to their page that lists available group camp sites: SBNF Group Camping

Reservations are made through www.recreation.gov.

I don't recognize the site Dave stayed in, so he'll have to share that secret. I have stayed in the Tanglewood and Big Pine group camps, and both are nice sites.

$60./night for 40 people? Score! Geez, a tent site in Jasper or Banff is $27.40./night for two people plus $9.80/day per person just to be in the park.

Jeff, yeah we looked at the spring... thought it was just a scummy pond :D

As Doug above mentioned, yes its Juniper Springs. We liked it so much, we tried to reserve it for Thanksgiving but its closed Nov through Jan!.... must be because of deep snow? I don't know, i think i could get back there no matter what.

If Fish Poet can contact Greg Hoffman, It may not be closed, it may be first come first serve. Thanksgiving would be cool. I dont care how cold it is!
