Goodyear Duratech Tires?

I kind of agree....... Like a couple weeks ago I bought a rifle scope for $40, and the salesman was kind of a jerk about it trying to get me to buy the $650 scope. He said "buy cheap buy twice", so I countered him with "if I have to buy something twice I'd rather only spend 80 bucks than 1300" and that put him in his place. (now back to tires!)

I'd even stick with the perspective of "I'd rather spend $80 than $650" That's still an incredible spread.

For tires, it would have to be several hundred in savings for me to run a "cheaper" tire. And even then, it would largely depend on the rating & reviews of the tires.

That being said, I think my next set of tires will be significantly less agressive than my current KM2's, which it turns out are WAYYY overkill for my new wheeling scene.

How attached are you to buying that specific tire? Last summer I was going to get a certain set of AT's but my local shop didn't have them in my size. They did have the Bighorns on sale and it actually came out cheaper than if I got what I originally wanted. So you might find something better performance-wise at a lower cost if you shop some more.

Over 8000 on mine and almost no wear at all yet, did great in snow , went wheeling last weekend at the Badlands in Indiana and it poured down the rain all morning making it a mud pit. Went everywhere I pointed it. After lunch ran one trail in two wheel drive , forgot to lock it back in.
Best set of tires I have had for a while, 710 bucks for four with all taxes hard to beat I think for what they do

Are you currently at 15k miles? Can you do a penny picture or a tread depth measurement?

They were on my short list for the JK, but in the end the KM2s were a better fit for me. It boiled down to sizes offered as the primary factor, with a few other ones.

One big concern with the Duratracs was the sidewalls—they're thin and easily torn. How you wheel will decide if this is an issue for you. They do ride great on the road and they're quieter than you'd think given the tread design. Like all Goodyears, they can sometimes be a bit tricky to balance but nothing too extreme.

Final result for me (in order of preference):
BFG KM2, Super Swamper LTB, Cooper Discover ST, GY MTR Kevlar, ******** Cepek Mud Country, Pro Comp Extreme MT, BFG AT KO, GY Duratrac, Truxus MT, Hankook ATM, GY Silent Armor.

Well I decided to test these guys out. So far I am pleased with the way they look and ride. Just got them today so that's all I can report on.

I wish they had a more mechanical looking and less organic/irregular tread pattern because it sounds like they're a real winner

I have over 13,000 on mine and have a little over 16/32 of tread left measured with a tread depth gauge if that helps any. At this point I would buy another set!

I have a couple thousand on 'em now. My only complaint is the noise, which isn't really a complaint -- it's perfectly acceptable. It is just the only thing that I could think of that wasn't stellar.

I'm particularly thrilled with balance and comfort w/ Load Range C in a 16. The tires are downright pleasant.

Chris, do you do any towing with this vehicle? I'm waffling between C and E based upon towing a 3000 lb trailer.

I have E rated tires on my Wrangler and the ride is great, some potholes may be a bit jarring but my Tacoma with E rated Toyo MT's was a lot harsher. Road noise is very quiet, though my father has them in a Dakota and it is quite a bit louder. These Duratracs are my favorite tires i've owned. Only gripe would be the sidewalls are somewhat ugly.
