I'm sure some of saw my post this we asking about a gen III well my new to me one is in the driveway. It's an 03 limited. It's got 138,000 on the clock. It was with the same family for the last ten years. It was pretty much a soccer mom car . It had personal plates that said bootsy . I have all the recipients for work done. ( Timing belt 20,000 ago, gauges replaced, transmission flushed, diff flushed, hell the power antenna was even replaced.) It also came with a almost new set of Cooper at3s on it. I paid $6000 for it but not having to do the timing chain and get new tires is worth it. I love this thing it feels solid like my 80 series Land cruiser but drives a whole lot better. I'll take pics tomorrow thanks for all your help.

Cool! We've been enjoying our gen 3. What's the plan for it?!

Not much really just want to make it a great family hauler weekend getaway truck. The first thing is going to be shocks and springs. It feels kinda weird because my list for my 1990 Montero was a mile long but that thing had everything wrong with it.

I put in the KYB Gas A Just shocks on mine and am quite happy. Much better than stock. Lots of people like the Bilstein/OME spring combo. Depends on your budget I guess. Springs are on my list, but probably sometime next year.

If you plan to load it up or tow with it the Bilstein's are better, but otherwise they are a tad too stiff compared to the kyb's.

Hello PLh - Thanks for your answer and I had the same question( I have a 2005 Gen 3). How has your experience been with KYB and OME springs as it's a top of the list option for me?
I'm guessing they are both front and back?
I will add armor (bumpers, sliders, plates) so will KYB with OME work well and how much raise did you get?
I've also seen some articles with Coil Spacers as an option for raise and KYB struts.

Coil spacers do nothing to improve handling or increase load capacity.

Thanks Jeep-N-Montero for the quick response.

In my first upgrade, I'm only seeking clearance(+add struts). Has anyone used Coil spacers on a Gen 3?

I kinda bummed the seller asked if I want two tires that he replaced on the front. He said they have half there life left and I said no. I texted him today to see if the offer was still there and he didn't respond...

Man do I love this truck . It snowed here in the Pacific Northwest yesterday and I had to drive on the highway in it. I'm from Michigan so I know how to drive in the snow but the think was so good in the awd. So far I'm in love

The truck came with Cooper at3 tires. The fronts were new last month and the rears have under 10,000 on them the are 265/70/16 these are the same tires I had on my 1990 Montero.i like this tire alot but I do feel the tend to wander at highway speeds and the ones on my gen 3 are pretty loud compared to my 1990. If I was going to buy tires I would look hard at the Cooper ATP tire as I think it would be plenty of tire for my use and my stop some of the road noise. I also have no idea the pressure I'm running as I bought the truck on Monday and haven't had a day off to dive into it yet.
