got myself a 1985 M1028A3 Dually CUCV with 28.xxx miles

I cleaned her up today .
put some fresh oil in her. and Transmission and radiator fluid.
After charging the batteries , she fired right up ...purring like a Kitten.

Awesome dude~! Definitely an M1028 and I see it even has the ALWAYS lovingly placed forklift bash on driver's side bed--- my 1008 has 'em on both sides~! Wish you all the luck and BTW, did anybody tell you about this site here - LINK - tons O' Info. Also, What part of Floridee are you from? Was raised on the Gulf Coast myself.

Alrighty then, Treasure Coast is awfully scenic, or it WAS last time I drove A1A, hope to see it again before my old bucket gets kicked.

Also, it looks from the engine compartment pics like you still have the original resistor bank in the glow plug sys. Not a bad thing but I did the--- GP controller bybass to manual momentary--- and a starter relay upgrade AKA "Doghead Relay" in that posted link. Consequently you can then just remove the resistor bank after that, it's useless weight.

The Doghead Relay upgrade is highly recommended if you're not overly familiar with the military 24 volt starter system and the relay is located under the dash, not too hard to reach. Another thing I would recommend (by my own misfortune) is a complete starting sys cleanup, batt cables, starter posts and anything else connected to starting sys PLUS--- do, do, DO--- be sure the starter has it's factory tail piece mounting brace installed and torqued proper. Give those 2 starter bolts a gentle 30-40 ft lbs of torque too while your at it.

Tho I see you've 6.2-ed your Range Rover, these mil-spec 24 v starters are ring-gear killers if all is not perfect in their little world. They only like clean voltage and all factory-like mounting tight in place. So many guys on Steel Soldiers forum have posted so many horror stories I won't go into, but suffice to say that even my 1008's FIRST starter ate the ring-gear before I could get to its needs, and it weren't no fun replacing~!

Nice rig. That suure is a heavy load for the rover. I don't think I would feel safe towing a diesel dually with a range. I like both your trucks tho. I could definatly belive the millage. Heck my truck was not ex mill and had 30K when I got it. Was real beat up looking because it was a farm truck its whole life.

The thing with the Millitary trucks is not so much the Millage but the hours of run time. My first truck was a 1977 Dodge M880. It had low millage of 45,000 (was used as a brush fire rig by the park servace after leaving the millitary) but that truck had ran idling for long long periods of time. Still was a great truck but the motor was worn.

I agree with the mileage issue, they let them idle for quite some time. When she runs she really sounds like barely driven , though. very smooth.

Got all the lights sorted and changed the starter relay for the more powerful starter safe model
