GPS Help

Observer
I am making a trip from Houston, TX to Seattle, WA about 3 weeks long. Stopping in MOab, Yellowstone, Glacier etc on the way. I dont own a GPS although I do have an Iphone. Havent really messed around with GPS devices except the phone. So my question is, what is a good GPS for me to get. Will my phone be enough. I dont know about signal or anything like that. So any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I don't have an i-phone, but I have a couple of friends who have given up their GPS units in favor of using the i-phone. Both of them travel in remote areas frequently . . .

I use both my iphone and a Garmin Nuvi for in-car navigation. The iphone is excellent for forest service roads etc using the topomaps application (down load maps on fast wifi ahead of time). I also use the iphone in a small see-through dry bag for hiking as well using the same topomaps application. For on road navigation and routing the Nuvi is better, but there are improving on road navigation apps for the iphone. One thing to be aware of is that apps such as the built in google maps require data service (at least edge) to be at all useful. Fast data service is hard to come by in Montana.

There are some reviews of the various navigation apps: http://gizmodo.com/5570661/iphone-n...-ios4-multitasking-tomtom-copilot-and-navigon

Just make sure they store the map data on the phone!
