We just did the Rubicon and Dusy Ershim in 2 similarly overloaded Monteros, we spent a lot of time on bumpstops to say the least.

I met those guys and their family. They get out and enjoy the outdoors with their Montero, and prefer to bring a few added comforts, like the rest of us.

Dont forget, everything is a compromise.

I agree weight is a big concern. Bottoming out, breaking things, power, over heating, handling....everything comes into play. My SAS actually reduced my rigs weight which I am thankful for. But you really should be analyzing weight with everything you do. Mine was riding on the bumps stops at times during the Carnage and I need some new springs. Overlanding is one thing, but a trip like the Carnage overloading can become an extreme problem.
