Congrats Will! It looks excellent. Have you had a chance to use it at all yet and if so how does it compare to the Defender 110 and RTT so far?

Hey Ward - I have used it driving between AZ and MA. In those 5 days of road-tripping it was similar, however, the Jeep + Habitat is a much more refined combo. The Habitat is much easier and faster to open and close - than the RTT system was. Also, as I get older, comfort becomes more of a priority and obviously the Jeep excels in this dept. In my opinion, also the power-to-weight ratio is better in the Jeep too; that's comparing a 3.6L auto JK vs. the 2.5L 300Tdi w/5-spd. Super happy with the "switch. " No regrets.

Wow, nice long trip. Did you find any increased noise level with the Habitat in place? You must have hit a few windy days across the prairies!

Nice looking setup Will! Ward, last month we hit major crosswinds coming back into Flagstaff from the N side after Toroweap that really pounded the Habitat every which way and although it was definitely noticeable that we had a taller profile, everything drove just fine at a slower speed. Then again I am used to driving a larger RV in which case slowing down or pulling over for the front to pass is the best way to stay safe. Winds were so crazy they actually tripped the anti skid sensor which would not go off until I manually reset it after the trip. Used a manual disconnect switch to avoid unnecessary auto braking action the rest of the way into Phoenix. What a great trip, though, and at least the winds waited until we left the GC area. Next trip N is to OX13!

I am so jealous of you going to OX13. It was the plan to have our Habitat installed just prior to OX13 then stay for the event and drive back home. That was until our son's theatre company announced that they would be performing the Laramie Project and it would be May 17th, 18th and 19th. Oh well. Best laid plans. We will now be arriving in Prescott on June 1st and having the Habitat installed then. We will probably go over to where OX13 was and see if we can pick up some of the vibe left behind! Maybe next year we will be able to make it back down for OX14.

I really wish I could hit overland expo too. I have to put in for vacation in October, for the next year, and totally missed it! Will have to pay attention more next year.

It was indeed a nice long trip. I did notice is a slight wind noise level change coming from the driver side A-pillar. At highway speed, I was able to isolate the noise, by placing my hand in the space where the door window frame meets the door jam. It was like an on/off switch for the noise. I think it is mostly a door seal thing. When I get back to the US, I'll dig into it more and contact AT about it to see if they have any suggestions. Or better yet, has anyone here had this issue come up?

As for the crosswinds, I definitely felt those, but not more than I did with the stock hardtop. And thanks to brianjw, the Synergy steering components really tightened up the steering, which helped when countering the strong crosswinds.

I got the same whistling noise from the a pillar. Poking the right spot in the seal was an on off switch too. I picked up some adhesive backed foam/rubber weatherstripping and stuck it under the factory seal to tighten it up. Took a little trial and error but its better now.

I figured it would be something like that. I'll give that a shot when I get back. Thanks, man.

No noise from A Pillar, but what I did some time ago before the Habitat was to pull off the lower windshield frame brackets and apply silicon behind them which eliminated any wind noise I was already getting through that area. The silicon fills the little cavities behind the brackets but still allows the brackets to be removed if I ever desire to.

Do you find you use your Jetboil more than the stove? We are in Prescott right now. Install of Habitat will be done tomorrow. A night of camping near Prescott to make sure everything works then start on the long 1900 mile drive back home. I can hardly wait for tomorrow!

Congrats on the new top! Have a safe ride home.

I actually use the stove quite a bit and reserve the Jetboil mostly for fast coffee at the crack of dawn:coffeedrink:. The nice thing about it is I can boil up the water and make the coffee up top inside the tent (vented of course), which makes for a nice start to the day. I love that rear shelf area for the Jetboil, duffle bags, etc. - keeps it all out of the way.

What brand of coffee maker is that on the right (French press)? It looks nicely built how do you like and where did you get it? :). Btw the Jeep looks fantastic (love the LED light bar).

French press is super well made, double walled, SS - one of my favorite goodies. Might make a cozi for it sometime for added insulation in cold temps.

Thanks for the compliment on the JKU.
