Hackney Fuso Stuff

We've been asked more than once what we carried on the Fuso in its 10,000 liters of locking storage space. Since we loaded it as we built it, and started ejecting stuff off of it immediately after pulling out, we didn't really have a good answer to that question. Until now.

Exterior Storage Compartments & Garage

Here's all the stuff that was carried in the exterior compartments and the garage:

Not shown: Contents of the camper basement storage compartment / wine cellar that I forgot to unload and include in this photo, including the vise, wine, spare parts, first aid kit, etc.

This is what the exterior stuff looked like once binned and loaded onto the pickup.

Camper Interior Storage

Here's what was stored in the interior of the camper:

This is the majority of Steph's craft/scrapbooking/stamping supplies and tools.

Following is the rest of the stuff stored in the camper interior:

Not shown: >400 pounds / 182 kilos of stuff removed prior to shipping.

All of the stuff in these photos, exterior and interior storage, weighed almost exactly 3,000 pounds / 1,361 kilos.

And keep in mind that we've been removing things from the truck since a few weeks after we began our journey in June of 2007, including more than 800 pounds / 363 kilos of stuff we removed in January 2009 while in Ecuador that we hadn't touched in 18 months of full time living in the rig.

Stuff. We have seen the enemy and the enemy is us.

I've heard the phrase, "The job expands to fit the time allotted to do it." Is this an example of the "The load expands to fit the space allotted to carry it?"

I assume the pictures mean good news to the end of your shipping experience?

Well done!
Glad to see you have your rig back too.

Most amazing is finding all of the supplies that never get touched, aside from spare parts that is - not touching those is a good thing.

The two motorbikes were part of that 3000lb correct, those would make a significant contribution to the total.

In another thread when I joked about your truck being found in Columbia I never imagined it could be anything near the truth.
I'll withhold judgment on whether getting it back is good. Did your insurance company get involved at all?

:Did your insurance company get involved at all?

Once our Fuso left the U.S. it was self-insured.

Prior to departure the only global coverage we were able to identify was from AIG and they limited comprehensive coverage to $50k USD and wanted $5k USD a year for that coverage.

We did carry global liability on the truck through AIG while overseas, but no comprehensive (fire, theft, collision, etc.).

The insurance company Scott Brady used while in Central America excludes Colombia and some other countries.

We tend to visit to the world's hot spots, so limited coverage doesn't do us a whole lot of good.

Thanks. It's been a very stressful experience.

Our pile in Ecuador of things we hadn't touched in 18 months was pretty huge. And pretty humbling.

The two motorbikes were part of that 3000lb correct, those would make a significant contribution to the total.

Total weight of the two bikes (Honda CRF150F), bike spares, bike fuel and riding gear (post Ecuador thinning down) is approximately 800 lbs.
