Marin Amateur Radio Society/W6SG/w6sg.net has a class starting Oct. 20 at 1100am until 200pm. It goes for 6 Sundays. There is no charge for the class but you will need the ARRL technician class study book. You can buy it at the club or get it from HRO or online. This is a class that will teach you more than the answers to the test questions. You are welcome to come to the class if you already have your tech license but don't have a clue what to do.

More info here.

Not to ruin your post but the "not a ham cram" caught my attention. Its going to be a hard sale to the mobile crowd. Most are much more interested in using the radio rather then the theory behind its operation. Across the board I think its a unavoidable change in new Ham operators from a electronics hobbyist pursuit to simple communication devise. Its a bummer but will hopefully keep Ham rolling in the age of sat phones and internet.

I know it's a hard sell. I can't change that trend in ham radio but my club is doing its part to teach people. The class started and there were three students. There were going to be a few more.

There are people that have a license but don't know anything. They can't program a radio, don't understand how repeaters work, have never been on the air, etc. The ham crams may be knocking out people with licenses but it may not be such a good thing. It's not for me to say. The class is available for those that actually want to learn about amateur radio. If others just want a licence, the ham cram is available from other clubs.

Our club also provides communication for public service events. This gives volunteers an opportunity to get radio time and learn even further.

If the class already started, is there another one planned this year ? Or can someone drop in mid-class ?

Just a few threads down in the list is another class offering just a few miles north of Crazy's.

It begins this coming Friday night (Nov. 1, 2013) and will be our last class of the year. Please signup as quickly as possible so we can get you the study guide.
Around the first of January we will work out the schedule for next year's classes. The first one will probably be late February or early March.
If there is interest we will put together a General and Extra study class as well. Post up or PM me if you are interested.

You are welcome to come on down. You will need to study the chapters that you missed but no big deal. They will be reviewed towards the end of the class. You can take Charlie up on his offer. We won't have another this year. We will have another one after the first.
