Hey Don,
I think I mentioned in another post that I can’t stop thinking about his set-up. I got an e-mail back from Dan Randle from Hannibal. He mentioned that it is actually a rail system that was developed for the Jeep Wrangler. It has two aluminum rails that bolt into the factory luggage rack holes on the Tacoma. I take this to mean they bolt in where the factory (dealership) supplied rack would be mounted. I have not peeled back the rubber strip on either side of the cab roof but I guess there is some sort of threaded mounting holes already there. The mounting uprights for the rack then slide into those rails and are bolted down. Price for the rack is a bit steep at $1350 but that has not totally turned me off from pulling the trigger. Here are a couple pictures.
Now…
For something different. Hannibal had a prototype mounting system for a roof top tent on display. It ties into the tracks where the bed-side tie-downs slide. Very slick set up. But my favorite part is below the tent they have made two removable flat aluminum pieces that in essence become a tonneau cover. The removable flat pieces can then be used as table tops for food prep or whatever around the camp site.
I could have sworn that I took a couple of pics of this but I can’t find them on my camera. Perhaps my wife deleted them…
