Harbor Freight Jack Stands Recalled for Risk of Collapsing

Wait til you find out all these importing buyers are shorting and buying Chinesium steel and reselling as US Spec and prices to rebuild our infrastructure...i.e. bridges!

I'll take my stands back too but not sure how long I even had those things!

No one is actually talking infrastructure, too boring to get votes.

Meanwhile it all continues to crumble around us, the have-nots getting desperate for work, the haves benefiting from their tax breaks and corporate welfare. . .

Our fuel taxes in Colorado have not changed in 3 decades, but you wanna know what has changed this last 3 decades? Us selling most of our roads to private companies and them charging us all tolls to drive on em.. C470 is like the most expensive toll road in the country, and its mostly empty cuz nobody wants to pay $45 to get to work on the other side of town every day.

Yes, that's the sort of "infrastructure development" the right is happy to fund.

The idea of government efficiently providing actual "public goods", is seen as socialistic, and anathema to their ideology that the market can (and should) do it all.

Plus of course public infrastructure requires taxes as opposed to private investment.

Let's not turn it political on this one but the facts around my statement were not to stir up a left/right debate but an awareness of what is really happening to US infrastructure.

FYI, I'm a Libertarian, I see through the BS on both sides and do not stick to a party line. Let's not forget, the states are responsible for their own infrastructure by the privilege of our founding documents and has always been that way; if your state has significant infrastructure issues than your government party is responsible for it and they are the ones paying those private corporations. I live in Cali, the most government regulated place in the states and 5th largest economy with the highest taxes and regulation on private and business life; we surely are not RIGHT over here but we seem to have the most failing and expensive infrastructure as well? Look what is happening with the exodus of California; how our state votes and how they actually run their businesses are being felt in every place they land outside of this state on exodus.

The market is an EKG of the richest people's feelings that day; you want to have a good view of who the richest people on the planet are and then look at who doubled and tripled their money during a global pandemic; most specifically we will just use our own country of the US; I would say it surely is not leaning right so give those "right" men/women a break on general terms cuz those facts do not line up as public record shows who and how our richest vote and also what kind of tax break their corporations are getting; no wonder they don't want tax reform. ;)

The facts show what years and what votes removed the most money and most infrastructure projects and during what and who's administration both state and federal side.

Let's not poke at people's political affiliation here please; its the one safe place we have left.

But I will do it over a campfire with you anytime....lol

The fact remains, regardless of party, that the right has for decades purposefully eroded public trust in the idea of government itself, and pushed the idea of "self funding" "user pays" and privatization even wrt prisons, and national security.

That propaganda has had ramifications, and crumbling public infrastructure and the rise of privately owned toll roads are two of them.

The right talks a lot about infrastructure, but other than the border wall, it seems these "public private partnerships" are the only ones they actually show interest in.

I am not at all trying to claim that situation would be any better when the corporatist "centrist" Democrats take power, just pointing out the historical background behind those toll roads.

Dwight would roll over in his grave

If you can afford it, its like having your own personal autobahn.. I'm sure you could do 140mph from one end to another day after day, year after year, and never catch any flack as long as you dont drive so fast the toll reader cant charge yeh.. I know when I do resort to driving on it I'm wide open throttle the whole way..

Colorado has TABOR, all tax increases gotta pass a vote.. and guess what nobody votes for? more taxes.. so we got cheapest fuel in country after 30 years, and terrible infrastructure.. I think the only reason why we got legal weed is because every city was so desperate for more taxes and only thing we will vote for is new vice.

Are the "increments" on the Esco jacks convienant? I have never ever EVER had a jack stand set at the height I raised the vehicle too, I always have to lift or lower to get them to work properly, which is a bit of a PIA. The Esco jacks look like they have larger distances between the holes on the shafts. How have they worked out for you?

We haven't seen much from our gas tax. Freeways are being widened but no revenue sharing with the cities for infrastructure, repaving etc. Hidden in the fine print was that monies could be used on the Browndoggle as the bond money has been spent. To Newsome's credit he has temporarily halted more funding. Sacramento has never seen a tax they don't like. Assembly bills don't need the blessing of the voters.

Here is a picture of the 3 ton stands that I screenshot from Esco’s site.

This picture, of three different models, shows two holes in the body of each stand.
This feature would allow for smaller adjustment increments.

Maybe someone that has purchased the Esco stand can verify this.

Harbor Freight recalling more jack stands after 'welding defect' found in replacement stands
Kelly Tyko 7/07/20
USA TODAY

Months after Harbor Freight recalled 454,000 jack stands because they posed a safety risk, the retailer announced it is now recalling the replacement stands.

"I'm disappointed and embarrassed because we've identified a welding defect in a small number of the Pittsburgh 3 ton steel jack stands (SKU 56373) that replaced the recalled jack stands," Eric Smidt, the company's CEO and founder, wrote in a message to consumers.

Smidt said the defect was discovered after the initial recall investigation.

"If you own these jack stands or any of the jack stands in our original recall, whether or not you have had an issue with them, please stop using them immediately and bring them back to your local Harbor Freight Store for a full cash refund or store credit," he said.

They’re going to take back ANY of the 3-ton and 6-ton stands if you’re feeling nervous about them, regardless of serial numbers. My 6-tons were not originally recalled but I’m going to check my serial numbers again and ponder my next step. Kudos to the owner for acting so quickly.
