Wondering if a thread on hardware might be useful...time will tell.

My question: I've priced out drawer slides with locks and they're far more expensive than drawer slides without locks. Rather than spend money needlessly I wonder what clean options exist for locking drawers and slide-outs (like a fridge slide-out)?

I've seen some handle/latches that look like they can lock drawers.

What options are there for locking drawers and slide-outs?

Thanks!

Partly depends on if you need lock-in and lock-out.

If you only need it latched closed, then there are plenty of options - drawer catches/pulls with latches, etc. Heck, even a basic barrel-bolt or pin can hold things closed.

Locking open is a bit more tricky - especially if you don't want it to be cumbersome. If you need this feature, I'd suggest just paying extra for the slides.

I have a heavy 60" deep drawer in my truck, and when I want to hold it open I just put a 2" spring clamp on the top edge. 99 cents at Home Depot, and it's always in the drawer.

I see the spring but what's going on there? Does a wood spline shift over and latch the thing open or closed and you manually move it back to close it?
