Yes & no.
And assuming quality hardware & workmanship, Using chassis negative, moderate loads its no problem.
But not for radio & audio appliances as its a source of noise. Winches & high power appliances, its not good either.

Makes sense.
What would you consider a realistic max amp draw appliance for chassis ground?
