Has anyone built a 1st generation Sequoia? My wife and I have three kids, and a Ford Expedition. I am planning a Tundra build for this summer that includes a slide in camper. Now however, she is thinking that we are supposed to have number 4. I don't agree, but who is to argue. So, if it cant be a Tundra, how about a Sequoia? They are similar in size to the 100 series LC, but for a lot less and come with a locker and have a third row. They also have less rear overhang and should be better off road than the Tundra. What do you guys think?

Didn't you just purchase a Tundra? I have a T100 with five kids and the back seat is large enough to fit 4 of them. That leaves one child in the middle of the front seat between the wife and I. When your wife says she thinks you are supposed to have 4, be prepared for #5, been there done that.

No not yet. I am planning to get one in June or July. I should be able to find one that has the front bench seat. However I think that I have dodged the "one more kid" bullet.

There is no way that I would purchase a vehicle that has had that much modification done on it. If it is so awsome why is he not keeping it? I'm not saying that it does not look like it would go anywhere, but I just sold a project and don't want someone elses.

The back seat is wide enough that my 4 and 7 year old can share the middle seatbelt without being too uncomfortable. They are required to have booster seats due to their age and the State Law.

My 11 year old prefers riding in the back of the truck (camper shell) and I am comfortable with this on short trips and with the bolted in seat with seatbelts. I know that this may not seem like the best option but as mom does not go with us on camping excursions, we rarely need to take the whole family along. I have been eyeing some quad cab Tundras for more room as the kids get older. I will look for one with the front bench seat to allow the same seating arrangement.

I'd get REAL familiar with the Sequoia ABS/TRAC computer issues, and know the potential of what I was getting into before I jumped into another one. You could spend in excess of $5k trying to chase that demon. Most won't have problems, but some do and you don't get to pick if it's going to be yours... :sombrero: BTDT.

There's a reason they're cheaper than a 100 series. The Sequoia had the lowest perceived fit/finish/build quality of any of the 14 Toyota vehicles we've owned. FWIW.

I recently picked up an excellent 2001 Sequoia Limited. It is truly a fantastic roomy vehicle that drives extremely comfortably. The 4.7 V8 doesn't have tons of HP but sure seems torquey.

I also own a modified FJ Cruiser, modified T-100 and 2010 Venza. All great vehicles and the Sequoia certainly seems to have the same DNA.

I'll probably never build up the Sequoia too seriously. It did come with some nice BFGs. I took out the 3rd seats and built a nice flat platform. I'd like to do a mild lift at some point.

I would highly recommend a Sequoia no question.

As much as we liked the platform, the 05 Sequoia rates, solidly, at the BOTTOM of a list spanning nearly 30 years for quality... and I'd never own another 1st gen Sequoia.

Still have the 85 P/U, 02 Taco, and 10 Tundra. 98 4Runner is the one we've always looked back on, other than the squeak squeak splash cup holders. LOL.

Jury is still out on the 2nd gen Tundra, but I can say it gets better mileage than the 02 Taco, and more than SMOKES it in the HP/TQ category.

The 5th gen 4Runner DOES have a certain appeal.

If the Sequoia is anything like the Tundra (which is shares the same platform with) it will be a great truck. My Tundra was the best riding 4x4 fullsize truck I've ever been in. I was sad to see it go.

Yes, the Sequoia is very much like a Tundra and I've found it to be every bit as solid as every other Toy I've owned.
