Headers Vs Manifold???

Hey guys,
Long time not talk ey!! Got a new question for you all. We have a hole in our headers and the muffler place in Prince George British Columbia says we pretty much have to switch to a manifold to remedy the situation. The headers are for a 8 cylinder and the hole is right on the inside or the pipes where the two pipes come together. Basically the four headers come out of the engine and then join into two seprate pipes then join again a few feet later into one single, our hole is right between the last two pipes where they turn into one, on hte drivers side. I have no idea who put the headers on or where they came from, my question is do i really have to go to Manifolds, the place we went says its impossible to weld the hole because where it is, i kind of thought they could just cut that section out and weld in a new Y but what do i know right. The other thing im pretty uncertain of is the mnaifold deal, they seemd to think it would cut back some of our power and fuel efficiency which is terrible as is, i have til tomorow to make a decision before they start converting me to Maniofold so please any info or insite woulod be greatly appreciated, oh and our website is finallyu up and running, so if anyone would like to see pics of everything we did to the van and all the badd *** work go to...

I don't know what rig you have, but I had similar issues on my old 78 Pathfinder Ford. It had headers, and the pass side broke a few times. At one point I had two different brand headers on it. I eventually went to manifolds, and was happy. You may loose some high end power, but you really shouldn't notice it. The manifolds will be allot easier to deal with.

Well thanks for the info, i mean if the manifold sytem will work and all we lose is some hi end then its no big thing to switch, i guess at this point it all depends on how much it will cost us because the headers we found on Summit for example cost around 600 and if the switch is more then that then why not stick with headers right. I mean we can switch those on our own, decisions decisions!

If you stay with the headers, be sure the first exhaust mount isn't too firm... That's what happened to mine, the torque from the engine busted the header @ the collector because the first exhaust hanger was too rigid.

Hey aone, so i found the headers i need on summit racing, they are Thorley headers, but the only ones i can find are Chrome ones, and when i checked the Thorley site directly and i almost choked. Is there any one place thats better than others to find headers? Anyone know of any people in AK that could help change them? I have some tools to do the work but it will be pretty ugly if it comes to doing it in a parking lot, but i know if i bring it somewhere it will be even more ugly.
