Heater Core replacement, stuck at last step

Hello, I'm doing heater core swap as mine is leaking. I'm stuck at the last step, there is a white plastic moving peace which is in the way of heater and I do not know how to take it out. Please see pics. Any help greatly appreciated. Want to do this befor east coast winter hits hard

I've looked in the manual but couldn't find anything on how to take that white lever piece out. It's gen 2.5 montero.

Is there a nut/bolt where the white lever attaches to the heater unit like that lever to the left of your hand?

Thanks guys, finally got it out. Any suggestions for where to get a replacement heater core? I have read different opinions: buy used or buy aftermarket r buy OEM?( OEM is expensive :Wow1

Can anyone vouch in their experience with a aftermarket one, how are they holding up? Please point me to what all vendors sell aftermarket.

How did you get the lever off? I might be doing in this in the coming months so it might be helpful. I don't remember seeing any aftermarket units for the gen 2.5, but could be wrong. Even though expensive, I would go with new OEM as I don't want to go through all the trouble of removing the dash if it leaks again. If you're not planning on keeping the car for much longer, a used one might be good.

The lever comes off easy. if you look closer the lever has a spring action plastic part that keeps the lever from popping out. Just spread that plastic part outwards and the lever comes out straight.

Still contemplating OEM or used one from salvage stores :smilies27. Winter is fast approaching here in east coast.

Aftermarket should be fine, just have it pressure tested before install. I have had new ones leak upon testing.

Searched everywhere, no after market availability. I guess there are so few full size montero's that the after market manufacturer's didn't see any financial incentive in manufacturing that part.

Ordered an OEM online for $301 shipped.

I drive an M3 and some one once told me if you drove a Japanese you'll save a lot on part...... well that just went down the drain!!!!
