Heater doesnt work. Could this be the problem?

My heater hasn't been working, and although it isn't at all of an issue at the moment, I eventually will be taking this rig back to the states when I transfer this summer. I have quite a while before it gets cold for me, but I'd like to tackle this as soon as possible since there are plentiful montero parts on the island. I was tooling around under the hood and saw these two hoses disconnected. Are these hoses for the heater core? I've looked in the FSM but i couldn't find anything about it. I'll keep looking but I thought I'd throw out the question anyway. Here are the hoses located behind the intake manifold on the firewall. Both are disconnected. I don't know how to edit photos and draw arrows and whatnot, but I'm sure you'll figure it out...

Yes , those hoses are for the heater core. Most likely you have a leaking core from what I have read, it's a major pain in the *** to fix. I believe you have to remove the dash.

Both of those hoses go to the heater core. It's typical to bypass them when someone doesn't want/need to pull the dash and replace a leaking heater core. I think they are fairly expensive new and the dealer is the only place to get them. My opinion is it would be worth new to not have to possibly pull it apart for a used one that leaked again. The dash on these isn't too terrible to pull out.

Thanks guys, Ill look more into it. May try to look for a shop to do the work as I have very limited tools. May wait until I get back to the states anyway. Meanwhile I'll try to source a new core.
