Not sure what your future plans are, but now might be a good time to upgade to a blue sea systems aux fuse box or similar. They can handle a good amount of power and can really clean up/simplify your wiring.

I had my 12 circuit box setup so that there was a dedicated circuit used for triggering relays, and then a higher amp circuit used for whatever the load might be, lights/compressor etc....

Because us Europeans are vastly superior bunch, We have this thing called a "euro-strip" named for us.
If you are just essentially buttsplicing, This type of wire connector is a better method by far.
Of course it may qualify "better" if tight confines of space is a problem...
But normally, just cut off however many segments you need and get on with it.

(Visual example only, I dont know what size this RadioShack product is or if its good quality or not, I normally buy elsewhere.)

No special crimptool, just a screwdriver.
As many of our electrical projects are never really "finished", You can modify, test, etc. almost indefinitely without having to cut off to recrimp.
These are also listed to work for a wide range of conductor size where most crimps are only listed to work within a narrow range.

Not likely you would do on a vehicle, Can also connect solid conductors.

BTW, Sounds like a larger wire and higher capacity fuseholder will fix the problem.
That overly hot wire you feel is just energy being wasted not making its way to do its job within your lightbulb.

this was the answer i was looking for! especially the last part!

Fixed! I just replaced the 2 18gauge wires going from the battery to the relay, with some 14 gauge in line mini fuses and viola! It all works like a charm! This summer will be the test! Merry Christmas!
