Hello Conqueror Owners

I posted several months ago about purchasing a Conqueror trailer. After an almost two month road trip this summer, I have had it with sleeping on the ground, packing and repacking the poor, overloaded truck and trying to find room for our BIG german shepherd back there with all the gear.

In other words I'm ready to buy and Larry P. is coming in for the kill!

So before I commit I have just a few more questions (actually the wife does).

Has anyone used their tent in heavy, all night rain? If so, how did it perform and were there any problems folding it up while still wet, like the bedding getting damp?

Also, I know Dendy has put a fridge in his Conquest, but has anyone put one in a Compact and how much room do you have left for gear in front? Any thoughts on fridge size would be appreciated as well as wether a Combi is worth the extra $. Would a Engle 45 fit right in to the slide or would it have to be modified like Dendy had to with his Combi 60?

Lastly, Larry mentioned that people have had problems with the batteries that came with the trailers. Have you had problems and what battery would you choose to replace it?

Lots of questions but I'm trying to be thorough for the sake of my marriage.

Thanks to all who respond and to those have helped me out before.

Hey, Kevin:

So far several that I spoke with way back (right after) I got mine have since purchased, and I have yet to find any one that has been unhappy in any way. Sure each trailer has its quirks, but I look at that the way I do Land Rovers. You have the opportunity to make the trailer your own.
I like that challenge.

I have had mine in a two day DRIVING rain. No moisture on the bedding. I did not have the master fly deployed but only the canvas doors deployed as flies.

I had a little bit of rain blow in into the master floor area simply due to the wind.

Re: Fridge/Freeze
The tray is designed for a 60 model, however, mine had to have some slight and easy modification to fit.
The great thing about the tray is that it can have a floor installed on it and hold any size under a 60. I believe you could put two 45's side by side (that way you could put one in the truck when you are away from the trailer.)

Anyway, I am excited for you and I think your wife will THANK YOU so much in the end. Camping is so "in" right now that if you try to book a spot at any of the national camp ground ... it can be a year wait for a weekend spot.

This allows you the ability to just go where others cannot, and have a little more in creature comforts while still roughing it.

Good luck and feel free to call me if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Dendy

great buy on a 60 fridge :)
$749
http://www.campingworld.com/shoppin...acity-dual-voltage-refrigerator-freezer/21018
norcold is the same as engel

I have one in my conquest another buddy here in AZ has one in his compact

I also have a 45 arb
you can put the 45 on the side without the wolf packs but you have to make a longer shelf which I did for short term
but you cant fit two cause the wolf packs get in the way
I thought two 45s would have been sweet setup but oh well

also I was going to get a 80 but glad I got the 60
the main reason is height of the lid my 45 did not open enough and was a pain the 60 can open almost straight up and its nice to get out big stuff like milk jugs or stuff like that

my 60 fits but I have a piece of wood in the bottom of mine so the rubber feet are on the wood

I do think if its a single unit the combi would be nice but since I had the 45 decided to get the deal for cheap of the 60 and use my 45 for freezer

I did have the top leak when I was driving ?
not sure if it was my not getting the velcro down enough or how hard it was raining at highway speeds that drove it up into the back corner and got the bed wet ! ?

as far as rain ? well it rained on us a few nights of our 15 night outing with my rig oregon coast rain !
stayed dry and packing away wet I took my bags out the one night instead of keeping them packed up there just to be safe and not get our bags damp

but the inside at night was dry except where my shoes and clothes touched the side it wicked in but not much

yeah the batteries are dead !!!!

I researched it quite a bit and went with two of these
http://store.solar-electric.com/pvx-1295.html

after researching batteries I brought my sears marine back and very happy I did
you can go with one of them but I wanted a lot of power with our family

is the trailer perfect ? nope but no trailer is

I dont like the latches to much ? but they are OK and work

I love the nose box size and layout of the trailer is the best for the way I want to camp
so I can get in when the kids are taking a nap
the extra room is a must for the wife and kid
put a PETT in there for late night 4 year old emergencies

the tent design is nice and the bed is nice we put 3 inch thermarest under it and WOW made it really nice

hope this helps ya out some :)

Thanks for the info Guys.

Dendy, do you find that you use the freezer side of your Combi or do you wish you had more fridge room?

Honu, are you using the solar batteries or a Sears marine now? I guess I didn't understand. I would eventually like to hook up a solar panel to keep batteries topped off.

Also, how much storage space does your buddy have left in front of his 60 fridge in his Compact? If you know great if not, no worries.

I need to stop obsessing and just buy the damn thing! Larry is checking on shipping and if it isn't outrageous, we will go for it.

Heading to Fruita, Colorado today for camping and mt. biking. One more trip over packing the truck, wishing I could just hook up a trailer and go.

Cheers!

If you can't get anywhere with Larry, you should call Dean. If you can't get anywhere on shipping with either of them, let me know. I just shipped a military trailer to a lady in Seattle for $800.00, which was 2500 miles, so I thought that was a good price. I have a company that delivered my NAS Land Rover 110 from Colorado Springs for $800 as well, and they run West all the time.

As far as the Combi, ... perhaps at times I wish for a little more fridge space but having a freezer is great. Keep in mind that I have a contact here that makes gel packs for the NFL and the troops, and he is a land rover guy. He will sell the Engels to us EXPO guys at $100 over cost plus shipping.

I plan to get a 45 to use in the back of the truck at some point, for now, we simply take a cooler in addition to the Engel. Works for us.

Thanks
Dendy

AND Yes, the number of these Conquerors is dwindling. You need to ahem or get off the pot! Murphy's law says if you wait, that when you are ready, they will all be gone!

I am using the solar ones now :)

the main reason is plate thickness a really good Deep cycle will have thicker plates and after my research
the ones I have and Deka which I believe AT uses according to these solar guys I talked with are some of the best batteries out there hands down they say !

and Jeff below is one of the other guys who has a compact here in AZ :) (there are two compacts and a conqueror here in AZ)

I am not sure how much my other buddy has left over ? I guess the same as me without the front doors :) but still plenty room

i am going to put a shelf up above my fridge for a bit more room to store stuff
so that will help with storage

Rain:

You have to presoak canvas tents a few times to get them to shrink before you use them...many people don't and that's why you hear about leaks most of the time. My other canvas tent is the best performer in rain, so I imagine the trailer canvas will perform equally well.

I just got my Base Camp last weekend! What do you mean by presoak?

they say take them out set them up and take a nice misty spray hose and get em really wet just on the outside like rain coming down on it
check the insides to see its soaked in

then let it dry do this a few times say 3 with a dry in-between each soak a good thorough dry :)

remember never store wet canvas !!!! mildew real bad

the idea is the fibers swell up and get kinda broken in and will absorb water better later and that is what seals them or makes them rain proof

but remember dont touch the inside if its raining hard :)

So, would an even coat of CampDry or Scotchguard help the interior situation? One would think so....what do you guys think?

Kinda hard to keep kids from bumping into the walls.

Same question...

Also, I'm looking for the exterior dimensions on the Compact to see how well it would fit in the garage in front of the Mini.
Does anybody know the size of it? I'm going to go look at one on Saturday... ...I'll be bringing my check book.

On a side note, I work for Johnson Controls. We own Optima and I can get the one battery per calender year at about 70% off retail; which will I be wanting to go with if I get the trailer?

Hill,

Any chance you can take a nose count of the number of Compacts Larry has left and report back here?

TIA.
If I'm not too excited to count... ...it feels like I'm 5 years old and Saturday is Christmas.

Hill:

The unit should come with a good battery for the price. Ask about that. Mine has a HUGE panasonic in it and it is doing just fine.

Some here had complained about the batteries but mine was brand new.

If you must replace it, go with a Yellow Top. (better than the red I have experienced this and heard this from others). That is a marine grade battery as well. You probably have room to do a duel battery set up.

As to the inventory. As of two week ago:

11 Base Camps (2 Demos) and 18 Compacts (1 Demo).

Shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions.

Thanks Dendy

keep the kids in the middle ;)

but its common to all tents that breathe a bit so its a non issue really

remember if its like a plastic bag you will be so humid and messy in the morning

Thanks Dendy ---

It does have screened windows, doesn't it, Honu? Besides breathing, it would need a proper breeze?

Do you owners deploy the fly usually? I'm really considering this rig for travel and I usually cover a bit of ground. I'm hoping for a maximum of 30 minutes from park-the-jeep to completely-set-up-&-cooking.... ....that sort of thing...
Is that reasonable?
