Hell's Canyon - Hat Point, Lord Flat & Dug Bar

It's definitely possible, Dug Bar shouldn't be an issue.

But, some of the steeps and tight corners on Lord Flat are going to be a little challenging. I'd absolutely prepare to get some pin striping.

If you don't mind me asking - what kind of full size?

I'm debating on taking my gmc Yukon, or jeep Cherokee. Both the yukon has 265 75 16durratracks and the Cherokee has the same tire in a 31 10.5 15. The Yukon is a lot more comfy for the ride but I'm not the biggest fan of hard core pin striping on it.

Can this trip be done in a super duty crew cab long bed?
How many miles is the off road part?

I think that it would be pretty difficult to bring that big of a rig out to Lord Flat, there's a few sections that a fairly tight.

Hat Point; no problem.

Dug Bar; no problem.. Hopefully, you've got good suspension for that road, though.

I'd call Lord Flat the only "true" off road section, think that was about 20 miles one way, give or take.

One thing to consider would be extra fuel. Not overly sure what your capacity is for your rig... The nearest station is in Joseph - about an hour and a half away.

Thanks for sharing your adventure. It's such a relief to get on your way on such an adventure after all the planning, and they always go too fast. Then we just have to wait and work for the next... :)

...Nephew! Which makes it even better; he's like a little brother to me. Guess he's only utilized a few words out of his "new found vocabulary" since he's been back at home.

Yes, it's entirely redeeming to be able to provide someone else with such memorable life experiences. Not many kids his age will never see country like that...

Great write up. Have been meaning to go for several years now and something always stops us. Going to have to make it happen though. The pics really help.
