Help! I have seen a CHEAP 94 Cruiser

I [my cousin] spent $2.5K on a '94 FZJ80 last year. Thought it would require ~$5K of parts and 30 hours wrench time to make reliable, it took thrice that. Wowwee! I'm still on the hunt though. The cruiser is still on craigslist too..

I would wait until you're done with your phd before diving into a project like this. I got knee deep in base lining an 80 and then a 60 while I was finishing my masters and the lack of funds made the work miserable. There are so many "while you're in there you might as well..." issues that it becomes difficult to half *** it because you're out of money.

Someone said to plan on $2k to baseline one and that's pretty spot on. I'm refurbing a 94 with only 130k miles with no history and it's turning out to be a money pit. Even though I'm out of school and have a career I still can't do all I want to it.
