Help Me Pick Out Sliders

Its time for me to get some sliders for my 03 DC. I need suggestions on this. I really like the Allpro sliders that have a kick out to them as it seems that the kick out would protect the truck in the rear better, but I am open to suggestions. Price is also something to consider as well, but it seems that shipping is going to be a big factor too.

Post up your pics of your sliders if you can, that way I can get a better idea of what looks like what on a truck. :ylsmoke:

I've got the CBI bolt-on with a kickout and powdercoat on my '02 xtracab:

If I were doing it again, I'd probably nix the kickout, though it is handy for working on my roofrack. Overall they wound up making the truck a little wider than planned. I added the black grip tape on the tops to make them a bit less slippery.

So you dont think the kickout really helps out enough to add the extra width to the truck? Also, it looks like the sliders bolt on by putting bolts through the bracket above the truck frame and basically hanging the sliders off the bolts on the frame?

I've been very happy with my White Knuckle sliders. They are very well made and priced pretty well. The owner is a top notch guy and really takes pride in his work.

I'm not sure whether the kickout will really help or not. I ordered my sliders shortly after getting this fixed:

 I've been a little gun-shy since then about trying to see if my truck will fit between things. I figure it's one of those things where I'll kick myself for having the kickouts right up until I really need them, then I'll be glad I got them. Or I'll get hung up between two rocks and I'll be pissed. The sliders themselves (the section forward of the kickout) seem to be wider than some of the others I've seen, they're just about even with the fender flares on the truck. I think the DeMello ones tuck in a little closer, which would protect just as well from going over a ledge but offer less protection for cutting close around a tree.

The sliders can basically hang from the bolts going across the top, and I'm pretty sure that's how CBI installed them. I stopped by their shop while visiting friends in Idaho and had the sliders put on and frame reinforcements installed. It looks like the slider was pushed upwards off of the bolts before they were tightened; they don't appear to be making contact with the top of the frame. Also, it looks like there is a sleeve between the upper parts of the bracket to keep it from being tightened too far and damaging the frame.

Something else to think about regarding the kickout... you've got a doublecab, right? The kickout might be in just the right spot to make it a pain to get in/out of the back seats.

I have the same truck and went with the Demello bolt ons. Strong and tuck in tight - no kick out like CBI. Powder coat has stood up well too.

First decide if you want bolt on or weld on. I selected bolt on because I'm a poor welder and wanted the part to be removable.

I have a set of 78" trail-gears that I am actually having welded on tomorrow. I should have some photos later in the week. I shopped around for a long time on sliders and ended up getting the trail-gears based on positive reviews and a solid price. I picked them up new in box off a guy locally for $160. I sprung for their brackets and reinforcements. I'm having them welded on by a local Toyota custom shop with a solid rep. All and all I think I'll be happy. I would have liked bolt on's but the shipping of an assembled slider killed any deal I could find.

I welded on the the Trail Gear sliders on my '98 Tacoma Extra Cab. Despite being very well manufactured, the so called powder coat finish on mine is a joke. They came out of the box with chips and rust bubbles underneath the finish. It honestly looks like they let the metal sit outside and rust for a while before they put the powdercoating on. I'm not at all impressed. I live a long way from anywhere, and it cost a fortune to ship them up here, and I wasn't about to ship them back at my expense. I did write TG, just to offer my feedback, but I never heard back from them. All in all, they're a great slider, but I would expect a better finish.

I'll give another recommendation for Trail-Gear sliders. Hard to argue the cost/durability. If you want them powdercoated, arrange it yourself. I just rattle canned mine and it holds up well with good prep. Besides, they're just going to get scratched and dinged up anyway (assuming you actually use them, if you don't then you don't need sliders). Much easier to touch up paint than PC and cheaper too.

I prefer a design with a kickout but I've had a set of Trail-Gear sliders on my Cruiser for several years now and I've been so impressed with how well they've held up that I went for them again on my Tacoma.

I don't have photos specifically of the sliders but you should be able to see them well enough in these.

I got them with the frame plates and gussets. Definitely worth the extra expense for these. Welded them up in my garage.
