Ha ha nice!

Had to swing by Wally World last night looking for some weather stripping for the hatch on the Wildernest.....yoga pants has a totally different meaning there, than at Whole Foods...

Hey hey, quit taking this derailed thread off topic. Focus man, focus.

Watched this vid yesterday. Couple Tundra's tackling Death Valley. FWC on one of them. Just affirmed my disinterest in taking any big rigs off-road (including Tacoma's and old PU's). So fristrating watching them trying to go up a fairly mild obstacle that my ATV or bike could do in 10 seconds.

I have zero interest in wheeling trucks anymore, looks like huge pain in the ********! Only want to use it as a base camp. Few more hours of work, and I am out! :D

Heading over here for a couple days. Never been in this area, can't wait!

Got snowed and rained on last weekend...some trails were made from water! :D

Looks like some sweet single track! I'm fortunate enough to have some nice singletrack around as well.

Yeah, the basecamp thing is exactly what I'm gearing towards as well. I'll be ground tenting it for a while though. I'll save the FWC set up until my next truck where I'll have sufficient payload. Kids need to grow up sleeping on the ground anyway!

We had a 6.2l in a 2wd F350. That thing never cleared 14mpgs in any situation. It also road like crap! I still like Tacoma for it's size. Its not much smaller than a full size but it feels a lot smaller when you are actually driving it.

Like you said a bike wouldn't pause on that. Personally, those difficult spots would be boring on a bike and fun in a truck.

Also, I know on camera obstacles look easier but I don't think I would bad an eye in either my Tacoma or Super Duty.

I ordered 2017 off road short bed,6 speed manual, I LOVE IT,
Tech package definitely comes in handy with its back up camera and sensors and blind spot monitor,

4x4 engages very fast, locker works properly and easy, manual transmission Tacoma comes with a key ( extra safety measure).
Realistic fuel economy is 15/17 mpg.

Off road model also comes with larger tires, stronger shocks and I think also stronger rear diff.

I love my Tacoma, except for stupid ARB front bumper that is airbag approved 170lb and is only 10% stronger than the plastic original bumper, it vibrates unrealistically bad on bumpy roads, because its airbag approved and had to be attached to the frame with thin long brackets.

I would choose off road package and tech package again if I would do all over again.

Where do you order it?

Where do you order it?

I went to 6 different dealerships, and asked for what I built at Toyota's website.
as soon as i told them What I want, they all become little ********** cats, they wanna sale u what they have at the lot, regardless what the client wants,

So I picked up the phone and called toyota of North America 800 number and I said, either this truck you guys advertise doesn't exist and you do false advertising, or you have incompetent dealer network!!!

Gentleman on the phone took my info and said I'll call u back shortly,
10 min later I got a call from toyota of San Fransisco, and they took the deposit and ordered what I wanted.

15-17mpg.....ouch.

Have client who has a F250 6.2 gas who gets that, (unload hwy)

Don't know if the original post was talking stock, unloaded, or with all the gear in, but Toyota's gasoline engines are pretty well known for their mediocre mpg's. The 4.0L v6 in my 4runner is lucky to break 20mpg on empty highway drives. Any kind of weight, or wind, or hills, or accelerations, and my mpg's go down 1-2. The thing is a workhorse and its never let me down, but Toyota's conservatism really starts to bare its ugly side with some of these powertrains. I suspect this is why they went with the 3.5l v6 for the new Tacoma, and not a redeveloped 4.0l or newer type of truck engine; they're tying to boost their mpg figures.

I sold a 2007 f250 about a year ago. 5.4 never had the spark plug issue, and it had 145k on it. Truck got horrible fuel mileage. Mine was a 2wd with utility bed. I bought it for 10k when it had 70k miles on it and sold it for 7k with 145k on it.

Except the fuel mileage sounds like it worked well for you.

Yeah, for sure. We all have our definition of fun. I ride a singlespeed mountain bike with a rigid fork. Some trails take me longer than my friends with full suspension bikes, but I love it.
