I have been a jeep owner for 25yrs now and if you can find a nice Cherokee not one from a rip off merchant like your other post or a 95-97 Grand cherokee limited with 318 v8 you will get up to 300k mile on it. A Laredo is ok but not that desirable as the gas mileage would be worse than the 318 v8. The Laredo inline 6 has to work harder than the 318 and if you want to own the highway and tow of add gear it's the only way to fly. The 99-02 WJ GC are great as well 4.7L is a rocket and can be outfitted nice.

Spend around $5K on a Land Cruiser, maybe another $3K on improvements, and you won't regret it...

Or buy a Montero that will get better mileage and do everything you want while being equally reliable with far less miles.

I like my KJ, with an OME lift and a few extras it can be pretty capable for fairly cheap. I have 195xxx miles on her and still going strong

If you liked the Jeep and can finance, the Cherokee is now available in a diesel and is claimed to get 30mpg.

The KJ has been available with the CRD for quite some time. You can get either the 2.5crd or 2.8crd, depending on whether or not you live in the states. The US only got the 2.8
