I'm really glad that I found this thread. Lots of great info here. I recently purchased a 2015 GMC 3500 HD Sierra SLT with an eight foot Alaskan Camper. It came with relatively new General Grabber ATx 265/70R18 tires. The tires measure just slightly taller than 32" I am trying to figure out if I can squeeze a BFG AT KO3 in 295/70R18 into the wheel wells of the Sierra. These are a little over 34.5" tall. I'm worried about rubbing.
I initially wanted to change out for the 1" additional height (without upgrading the suspension) of the BFGs, but also to get something without the multiple reviews commenting about General tires going out of round routinely. I then looked at BFG KO3 reviews and found similar issues. I've had 4 pairs of KO2s with no such issues on 4Runners and a Tacoma. But did have them with a set of 35" Cooper STT/MAXXs.
My 2015 tips the CAT scales at 5300 lbs front axle, 5840 lbs rear. this is with the Alaskan Camper installed. So I am good with either the General or BFG tires.
I've only got a couple hundred miles on the Generals while in my possession (they have a total of 7,000 since new). Top speed so far was 65+ mph. No shakes at all, but do have the camper off and stored in a garage for the winter. I am running about 55 psi in front and 70 psi in back. So I should be good to go if I keep these on the vehicle.
Can anyone tell me if the taller and wider BFGs will fit in my mostly stock suspensioned Sierra?
My last vehicle was a 5th gen 4Runner with nice suspension mods and KO2s. I know I won't be doing the switchbacks and benchroads I used to love with the new to me Sierra. But I do want to stay on USFS and BLM backcountry roads as much as possible.
