Help Needed Sourcing Onan Genny Part for Tiger Camper

We’ve been waiting over three months for an Onan part…a valve for our propane 2800 genny. It’s not currently available and is on “national back order,” whatever that means!

(Actually, it means we’re SOL and can’t safely use our generator ?)

This is a big ask perhaps, but I’m reaching out to the forum members to see if anyone might have a chance to check locally with their RV repair shops and see if anyone has this part in stock in shop inventory.

Nationwide, Camping World can’t find any. And Onan corp had zero stock.

Anyway, if any of y’all get the time and urge to help, here’s the part number:

Onan Valve - A034W123

Because of the recent increase in scammer activity here, I’d ask if anyone finds this part a locally available, please just send me the place you found it, the name of whoever you talked to there and their business contact number and I’ll happily follow up.

Thx all.

We want to get the genny working so we can sell the rig later this summer or fall….

Oh yeah….one last thing.

I’ve wasted quite a lot of time going online to various generator parts suppliers, going through several pages of ‘ordering’ this part, only to see each time (at the end of this lengthy process) that none of these companies actually had the part in stock!

Some actually want you to order the part (and pay for it!) with only the guarantee that it will ‘ship soon!’ Right?

Anyway, if any of you have recommendations of honest, reliable shops you’ve previously bought generator parts from, please share them.

You might want to check a wrecking yard that handles RV's.
That 2800 propane genny has been around for awhile, might find a used one that has few hours on it.

Also, NAPA has been good at getting me some Onan parts. Take the old valve to them, maybe they can cross reference it to one they sell.

I was going to suggest the same. Possibly even a big equipment/truck salvage yard that has some oddities around, such as......

Or....

Thx guys. Good helpful input.

I had thought about the wrecking yard for getting the swapped part but…the reason I haven’t gone in that direction is my genny has very low hours and yet somehow this valve has already worn out!?!

That being the case, I have to wonder whether older junkers are going to have a better one??

I know you know what national back order means basically but I can shed a little bit more light on it and perhaps help with an idea. I deal with commercial trucks and many parts are on National back order since Covid. It's one of those things the world just still hasn't figured out. It makes little sense, especially having gone on this long.

There are many commercial truck parts on NBO which have literally sidelined trucks. Sure, a generator is something you need but not something that keeps the wheels from rolling. However, there are many MANY parts that do keep the wheels rolling, as in keeping the grocery store shelves stocked, that have been on NBO for months and now we're getting in to years. I've known several other owners/companies that have had trucks sitting at dealers and shops for months waiting on parts. Without these parts these trucks make no money, which is often someone's sole job and source of income.

OK, sorry for the long rant, but it's a bigger problem than most realize.

What you might can do is talk to Onan/Cummins about their equivalent of a 'truck down' order. This means you are added to a database making your order on this part imperative and you should get said part as soon as it's available anywhere, as in much sooner than the general public on a regular order. Not sure if it will work but it can help on big truck parts and Cummins is a big truck part company so perhaps they can do this.
