Hey guys I have an 02 Tahoe and I'm wanting to do a rear tire mount/jerry can holder. Either a whole bumper, some sort of hitch mount, anything I just can't get the creative juices flowing to get any ideas lol any comments or remarks are greatly appreciated thanks! I included pics of what I'm working with now to kinda help out, once again thanks so much!

A simple method that works very well, has been the Tiregate by Hitchgate. I locks into your receiver (they use a pin and a wedge lock to keep it from rocking). So far been very happy with ours. They offer an add-on can holder but I built my own mount and used one of my AT can holders. Very happy with the setup. Another nice thing is it's rated for 7500 lbs. tow capacity so it's likely better than the factory hitch rating.

That's a reasonable item compared to most swing away options. Once you factor in materials and labor (cutting out 1/4" steel on a power hacksaw is my idea of hell) you'll be hard pressed to justify making it yourself, unless you're really set up for that work.

Check out CBI Fab http://www.cbioffroadfab.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=152 I know it's for a 4Runner but it's a good, simple design with a simple hinge that doesn't require you to turn a precision spindle on a lathe. Should give you some ideas.

Mike have you ever caught any grief for the set up blocking your license plate? I haven't, but feel like it's only a matter of time.

That's actually another problem I feared was that I would block the plate and get hassled by our lovely local PD. That's pretty much the main reason I just threw it up top in the rack. lol

Well I don't have a good head on shot but as you can kind of see, the plate is moved to a bracket on the swing out, under the tire. They have a cool contact system for running the license plate light so there is no wires running around the swing out. They thought of these details. :D

In my picture above with the can, you can see the contact button and the bottom backside edge of the plate.
