HEMA Explorer North America

That answer puzzles me. From the Hema site it says : "Generate a route line to an address or waypoint using Quick Routing (coming soon for Android), manually create point-to-point routes, or mark important locations using waypoints to plan your journey in full." So does it not sound like they plan on doing precisely what I am asking? I guess none do that today, but does it not say that Hema will do it soon? Also, if I had the Hema Explorer and downloaded a trail from their site that someone else ran and uploaded, it would not give me the directions?

Hema does do routing. How it picks the route between 2 points off pavement I am not sure. I did a recent trip and Hema picked diferent parallel roads to end up at the same place. What it does not do is print out a list of the route it picks nor will it talk to you and tell you how to get there. All it will do is draw a line. You follow the line. It won't give you turn by turn via voice or display a list of the roads and trails to take. I am not sure how else to tell you. Neither app does what you are looking for. I don't think there is an app to date that does. I also am not sure why you find it difficult to follow a line drawn on a map. I am not trying to be condecending. You can zoom the map to a level where it is very easy to see where you next turn is. If you are running a new track on top of the one you have you can easily tell if you made a wrong turn. So no if you import a track the apps only show a line they don't give directions.

This reply helps me to see where we are talking passed one another. I don't mean it has to talk to me at all. It just needs to show where the next way point is and tell/show where to turn, what fork to take, etc. So I think we are on the same page now. Even my GPS that talks I turn the voice down so it does not bother me. I follow the lines on the map. So with that, Hema does that without issue, right?

Anyone know when there is going to be an update?

My layers show up as a grey box on my iPhone and iPad. I have downloaded all the maps to my devices, not trying to run off of data or anything. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both twice and still only occasionally get a map to actually show up, or it will flash up and then go back to grey. Running the current updates of iOS on both, I'm having really bad luck with the Hema NA program.

This is good information for people like me looking at this. Sorry I can't help since I don't have the app and I am on Android too. But I hope you'll let us know when this is fixed so we can test how dedicated they are to user feedback. Have you reported this to Hema?

What you will see in Hema is no different than what you will see in GAIA. You have the map of your choice on the screen with a line for the track in a color of your choice.

GAIA.jpg

Look at the above example. There is a magenta track line on top of the roads and trails. You just follow that. If you are switching from Road 1 to Road 2 you would have to create your own waypoint for that in advanced unless the person who created the track has marked the turn.

I pretty much gave up on layers in Hema. In Gaia Pro you can drag the order of the layers and the percentage of each layer to be displayed. It appears this code is incorrect in the Hema verison.

Thanks for illustrating the similarities between Hema Explorer & Gaia =)

Can you (or someone) post a screenshot of the issues you're having with layers? It's important to note that there are 'Active' Layers and 'Available' layers. If you try to have too many (more than 3) 'active' layers, things start to get a little wonky.
I generally run only 1 or 2 active layers, depending on what I'm doing. I've used the app very extensively on both Android & iOS and I've never seen any issues with layers except when I have too many in the 'active' section.

Another thing that I've found helpful is turning off wifi/data when you're offline. Sometimes the system tries to go find tiles even if it's already downloaded them, but turning the radios off helps that. You can also enable 'offline' mode within settings on the app.

Also, PM me if you'd like to have a quick phone chat about where we're going. Since you're so involved I'd love to express our ideas in more than forum posts =)

Thanks one & all for trying out Hema!

Is this not available in Hema at all, or is it just a bug?

I would like to assume it is a bug but since there have been no updates since the initial release who knows. Hema will only show the top layer in the list I believe.

Just downloaded the app. It's a bit over my head but pretty cool. The units thing is annoying. Any idea time frame wise for the update? Also will the United States version be like the ausie version where you pay a monthly fee?

Hmmm? Mine will show various layers as you zoom in and out but it's not quite stream less. I've found which layers work best together.

Here are a few screen shots: You cannot adjust the percentage of each layer and the ones below the top layer generally never appear.

Here's a functioning percentage bar in Gaia (Pro subscription required for layers)

Interesting, I guess I don't know what I'm missing as I don't have it :D

Perhaps something we'll see with a future HEMA release? Shane, you still following this thread?
