Yes and yes. GMs have gotten uglier and uglier starting with GMT900 trucks and Dodge and Ford look much more aesthetically pleasing. But still Duramax/Allison GM is rated to higher towing capacity than Ram 3500 with a Cummins no matter if anyone here will ever consider a single cab 2wd dually.
Are you sure on that rating? If I remember correctly ram is or was the only manufacturer to adopt sae load standards instead of their own in house ratings. I just read ram with the cummins has the highest tow rating out of the big three. The duramax is a great engine and tows awesome, even though it’s the lowest power rating of the three. My issue with the truck is not the duramax and Allison, it’s everything else. Gm has had declining quality for years, but their engines and transmissions which are basically the same for years are very good.
For 6 months I had a Denali hd with the duramax, I bought it new in 16. After 10 trips back to the dealer starting at 50 miles they and gm could not repair the constant electrical issues. I will say the duramax, Allison combo was fun to drive and towed well. For an off-road truck or anything other than a gravel road the truck was horrible. I lemon lawed the truck, drove straight to the ram dealer and ordered my current truck and traded in the Denali when my ram came in.
I swore up and down I would never buy another gm product after that mess, which now I feel that I got a faulty truck which doesn’t represent them all and I dealt with a horrible dealer, which can sower anyone. Recently my wife wanted to replace her grand Cherokee srt as it hit 100k, she only drives vehicles to 100k and trades them. It came down to a Subaru suv, can’t remember the name and a Tahoe.... she came home with a Tahoe. Overall I’m impressed with the Tahoe as an suv and I hope gm improves to thee quality they used to have.
