Sweet! 80 series steering wheel?!

If you remember Boston Mangler...that steering wheel is from the Baja 1000 race rig 80 that he and some other guys built then rolled into a canyon during the race. I bought the steering wheel and fender flares off him to help support the project during the build. Looks and feels great in the 40 and a fairly simple adaptation.

What ever happened to that dude..?

Last I heard, Kevin had sold all his cruisers to fund the purchase of a house in SD. He and the little offroad shop he and someone else started just fell off the face of the earth. When he was first getting bit by the mod bug, he actually drove up from SD to South OC to check out Ken Hanna's sliders I'd just bought.

Skillet - serious question. How are you liking the ARB Simpson on your trailer at that height? Assume you don't use an annex? Giving up on finding a reasonably priced Eezi-Awn Globegtrotter and looking at the ARB and knockoffs from TJM.

Brent,

Thanks for the Kevin update.

Personally, I love the ARB. I had the Car-Top-Tent knock-off on my 80 and, while lesser quality than the ARB, loved that one too.

It was basically the identical design, except ARB has the extended vestibule, which I love. CTT went with the truck. Still have the annex from that old tent and never used it then when my tent was 8' off the ground.

This height is much better, especially for my son. Easy setup, easy in and out, easy peasy. I am older and fatter so I wish the mattress was a tad thicker, but I think I will just lose weight and call it good.

The trailer came with the ARB, so it was a perfect fit for me and I already knew the design. Nice thing now is that I can leave the tent up, with the trailer, locked at camp and take off for a day of wheeling with the boy without having to break everything down for a cruise. That really got on my nerves.

IMO, trailer and tent is the way to go...even if I still had the 80, I would not go back to a tent on the roof.

Very nice 40 !I sold my 40 and got an 80, which I really enjoy, but do miss the "40" thing. Do like the storage in the 80 but it looks like you got around that problem, nice trailer !! Enjoyed the history as well !
