I agree. You'll be better off using the frame you have now, even if you have to modify it to suit your needs.
 
Shorten the rear 6" and add a rear crossmember bumper, D rings, lights and 2" receiver
Spring over " axle is very close to the frame in the first picture.
Angle iron corners and flat steel sides like the first picture.
Tongue and groove sides look good.
Tongue box from the front to second cross member.

You have a great frame to start with just go from there.

The frame you have is indeed, a great starting point. I'd flip the axle and make it spring over axle, giving you more clearance.
 
I think the area between the front of the box anf the tongue is what seems overly long...perhaps hack more off the back and move the axle forward?
 
My trailer will ultimately have close to 4' tongue before the "box" of the trailer. I need this much space because of my rear bumper's spare tire swing out. The overall length of my trailer will be 10'. For what its worth...
