Hi Everyone. Greetings from a very cold Scotland,
Just taking the opportunity of introducing myself to the forum and members, I'm Nick, 53 years old residing in Scotland in the UK.
It has always been my dream of own a classic american car from the rock n roll era 50's 60's but to no avail. I became disabled physically 10 years ago followed by a breakdown some two years later. To be honest its a struggle, more so the boredom, not being able to work not helping either of these predicaments.
Anyway I've spent the last year ruminating about my dream car and my wish to tour around Europe, but sadly due to lack of income its being not very realistic.
So as my father always said, “ when down pick yourself up and dust yourself down”.
This is exactly what I intend to do this year.
So I have a wreck of a trailer ( but good chassis apart from a little welding and needs new suspension) but its a start. Prior to my illness I was in the Manufacturing of Plastics and Recycled Materials industry and well aware that virtually anything can be recycled and used again. I also had my own hand and power tool business so very hands on. My mental illness gave me a curse of ruminating, once idea comes into my head it goes round and round until it comes to a conclusion. Last year I decided to turn this from a negative to a positive condition and came up with the following project:-
Approx 8 x 10 foot Camper Trailer
Sleeps and Dines 4 Adults
Lounge Seating for 4 Adults – Full media and Audio Entertainment System
Fridge Freezer
Cooker ( Stove )
Heating and Hot Water
WC and Shower
It cannot be over 750 kg ( 1650 lbs )
Single Axle
Have Access to travel with Mobility Scooter
Work in a 8 x 10 Shed / Workshop so I have planned to build it in 3 Modules which can all be bolted together and fastened to the trailer when complete.
I'm going to build the trailer from inside out, not the rational method of outside in, this is just easier for me to minimise the trailers finished size.
Last year my licence was unfairly revoked by DVLA for medical reasons which I've been fighting for since so car sitting outside but they reassessed my medical early Jan 2019 and its looking very favourable. So you can imagine the planning and thinking I've been doing these last 12 months.
Its getting built from : - Pallets, HDPE and LDPE recycled, Bubble-film and Fibreglass being the main structural materials.
Now I'm colour blind too ( Don't have much luck do I LOL ) so Im more into the bright colours and metallic's, thinks that glisten. I can polish and make shine rather than say ooh that's a nice shade of pink.
I will be adapting both in and out the camper such things as the tail fin, front grills and lights from cars from this era. Colours will be flame red, ivory, gun metal silver with the use of silver, red, yellow, orange, dark blue and gold flakes in 2K Auto paints. Rock n roll theme inside ie dining area etc Elvis Marilyn Munro etc.
In my head I see it and I know there will only be one of them on this planet so instead of a car I end up with a camper trailer, fully functional at a minimal build cost.
I will throw up a few pics for you to envisage where I am going with this, I will look forward to keeping you all posted on progress of works and of course any help I may require.
Best regards Nick
