High Beam Switch

I was killing time Saturday at the pick a part and saw an old friend, not a person but foot operated high beam switch. I got to thinking about how nice it was to be cruising around and in a corner when another vehicle was coming you did not have to go moving your hands around, just a quick press of the foot and the high beam was off.

I drive with only my left hand at 12 o'clock and my right rests on my shifter or the wifes leg (cant reach that far in the burb anyway, only the Camaro) so when I drive around I always have to let go of the wheel to mess with the high beams and it is always in a corner or curve and just bugs me.

So I looked in LMC and the old style switch is only $5.95, I dont have to yearn for the old days I can have it again. The point in this post is who remembers and prefers this old style switch!!

We had one in an '88 Burb. No, it wasn't factory. Dad put it as a kill switch. I have kept that in the back of my mind since I was a kid. I think it would be trick on a late model vehicle.

It is def gonna be goin in Subzila! I will do it when I upgrade the lights and add relays so the lights run directly off the battery and all the headlights come on, low beam bulbs and high beam all at once.

I've always said floor mounted dimmer switches and wing/smokers windows separate the real trucks form the foofoo trucks :bike_rider:

my first truck, '70 k10 had one.

on my current truck, the high beams arn't worth a darn.

i did this for my driving lights, right at my finger tips when in normal driving position.

My 1962 Triumph TR3B has a floor-mounted high beam switch, or main beam dip switch in little British car english. It's OK I guess, but they're so familiar I've never thought about it much. Over the years (now that I'm an old guy, I guess) I can remember *lots* of the cars our family owned with floor switches. In a world of three-pedal driving it can get kind of busy to keep moving down a windy road and be considerate about high beams. Especially for big feet in a small car.

Being able to flash the high beams using the column mounted stalk is pretty convenient, I gotta say. Try flashing your lights with dash on-off and floor high-low switches.

68 K20 representing, even though the floor board has rusted out around it. :Mechanic:

I do like the Idea of a kill switch on the floor board, but I would one day stretch my legs out and hit it going down the interstate

I never had one in a car I owned. My grandparents had one in their car that I drove around in WI back when I was about 14! Ah... Rural living!

That's what I used to run my KC Daylighter's on my 97 Cummins. Found one in an old Chevy I was parting out and it works perfect.
