I bought one of those things with the intent of using it to get a hitch mounted motorcycle rack up top and a trailer on the bottom and... I fiddled with it a bit and returned it. WAY too sketchy.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Based on the collective advice, I'm ordering this pintle hitch and grade 8 bolt set with free prime shipping from Amazon.
Still need a pintle mount - looks like I need a 10-12 inch long 2 inch shank and an 8 inch or higher rise. Anyone know a good source with quick (and cheap) shipping? I need it by Friday. Nothing like last minute.

I've never seen a rotating pintle hook. Do you mean a rotating pintle eye?

You forced me out of my chair to retrieve a Buyers Products catalog. Low and behold Buyers builds 6 different rotating pintle hitches. Something new every day.
They are pricey, though not as high as the UK version (US$380). I doubt you will find them on a retailers shelf. My supplier lists, but does not stock, 2 of the 6. You should be able to pick one up for around US$200 plus freight. They weigh between 40 & 50 lbs.

Looked at Buyer's selection, I like the spring damper, but they don't have the typical 45x85mm bolt pattern I would need.
BTW, what exactly are these used for:

I'm still trying to figure out which multi-axis coupler to go with. I like the robustness and commonality of a pintle hook system, but don't want any rattling.

The commonality of the coupler can be solved with a receiver tube built into the trailer tongue. That way you can switch in and out a coupler to fits your needs.
The issue is if Telwyn wants to do the conversion or not. Some people like to keep military trailers in original condition.

Rob,
I see those loops used on big tag trailers. Stuff like large landscaping chippers and tilt-bed tandem axled backhoe trailers. Frequently the tongue terminates in a flat plate with multiple holes for that part. Makes it easy to set the trailer for towing level behind a 10 wheel dump truck or similar.

You'll find them at the back of the first trailer in a set of doubles. My supplier tells me that out here most of them go into the ag market, where the trucks are moving across uneven ground (irrigation ditches and the like).

Just when I thought I had this figured out I encountered a new issue I didn't anticipate.
Here's the pintle hitch and mount adapter I bought:
The problem I encountered while mounting is that the angled bar on the adapter and the butt of the Rover hitch receiver prevents the pinholes from lining up. I'm off by about 1/4 of an inch.
So I suppose I could go buy an adapter that has a 14 inch shank instead of the 12 inch shank OR I wonder if I can grind down the butt of the Rover hitch receiver? I think the answer is I need to head back to Northern Tool for a new adapater... Ugh. The good news is that it's too darn cold in FL (I know it's worse elsewhere) for my fly fishing and kayaking trip in the Everglades so I didn't need this done today any way...

Sort of a hijack, but I've seen that Rover part before. What does it connect to?
Could that part, the one that the receiver 'adapter' connects to, be connected to directly? Eliminate the Rover receiver adapter entirely. Seems like that would aid both departure angle and reduce complexity.
