Holy Crap The Deck Plate Mod Is GRRRREEEEEAAAAAATTTTTT

I did the deck plate mod 2 days ago and what a differance. Better fuel mileage and a ton more power. This was a cheap ($20) mod and the truck sounds hot. :wings:
The plate was $15, sensor safe silicon, a few screws and 30min of time. Most expensive thing the first tank of gas use mainly doing power brakes and 0 to 85mph on ramp runs. On my second tank well I am still working but I am getting the same mileage towing my work trailer that I was getting before not towing the trailer. so a big increase towing the trailer it lokks like I will get close to 300 mile out of this tank compared to my normal 200 - 230miles towing.

I liked mine while I had it.... now with the snorkel, the deck plate stays in.

What does it sound like? I'd drink bleach before I drove around in a truck that sounds like some highschooler's rice rocket...

I could really use the increased milage though.

No worries about the sound. I really did not notice much of a difference (sound) at all. I got slightly better mileage and power with the mod.

It sounds a bit more throatier from in the cab, not much noise difference from the exterior.

I have been thinking about this mod for a while, but was wondering what it does to the life of the air filter. Our roads are really dirty here and I have to change it pretty regularly as is. I want as many miles as possible out of my motor and this does not seem like a mod that will contribute to that. I don't know much about is, so please set me straight if I am wrong.

I regret doing the Deckplate mod. I could tell a difference if it was in or out, but never saw a MPG increase. But with later adding the snorkel, i was too quick to jump and do the mod.

Because of this I wish I had spent the money on a "cold air" intake, and put the stock pieces on the garage shelf. I never went cold air because I was concerned about water ingestion during crossings and they seem to be designed street only in mind. With the Deckplate out you need make sure to put it back in on dusty conditions... I would hate to see what the cold air filter would look like if I was not leading a trail run!

I have the mod as well and have actually noticed that a lot more power. I have a question though. On my 96 tacoma i installed fiberglass front fenders so i could get more articulation. The problem is my intake pulls air right out of the fender and now that i dont have an inner fender it is pulling air from whatever my tire is kicking up. I realize this is a problem does anyone have any solution ideas out there?

Snorkel, or re route the intake to a better location.

Make your own fender linings with "pond liner".

Search over on YotaTech about the "pond liner" stuff. People use it when they do body lifts to cover up the gap between the body and frame.

Interesting post you linked to, Rick. I haven't read through it, but as this modification relates to my 4Runner and a number of other owners, this modification is the most over-hyped piece of nothing there is. It does nothing other than leave your good air box with a hole in it. I run with the cap in. I'm guessing most who praise this thing are wanting to believe they actually did something by doing this.

As for lionsbreath, I'm not sure what to think. If those results are accurate, then that's the way it is, but I wouldn't base one tank's worth to confirm this substantial mileage increase.
