Home Built Four Wheel Camper

Hey Guys-

I was wondering if someone could point the direction of some plans, or a site where someone had built a bolt to chassis camper or truck camper similar to a 4 wheel camper, or like the Northstar Escape pod.....

I had considered buying a 4 wheel campers shell model and finishing up from that, but I havent decided if I can afford the sudden outflux of money....building has the luxury of spreading the cost out interest free.

I have seen a blog about 2 surfers in california I think who built on a taco, with nydacore......looking for a cheaper option than nydacore.....maybe aluminum?

Also this is going into a 1987 toyota sr5 4x4 xtra cab, short bed I am building.

Here are some old-school plans. They are all wood construction, and may not be exactly what you are looking for, but a good source for ideas and techniques.

Oh, and the nidacore build you are refering to is probably the Supercamper.

Yes the super camper was the one I was looking for.....Nidacore seems pretty costly.....

I think I may research fiberglass over styrofoam, or vacumm bagged fiberglass, similar to boat building technology.....I think a camper could be made super lightweight strong and waterproof that way.

Any other advice or suggestions?

I've thought about researching the same, but haven't gotten to it yet. One thing I want to know more about is a vacuum-bagging technique I read a little about on the Kelsal Catamaran site, using bubble wrap and a shop vac...

If you are thinking of vac bagging fiberglass panels look up the vip process. Google vacuum infusion for some information.
