quick-fix: get some thule or yakima bars/clamps and return them after the trip?

long term fix: my rola roof rack would slide to a side when clamped to factory roof bars and loaded down heavily, and just didn't seem secure in general - so we converted it to a semi-perm mount:

hard-mounting addition:

i found my temporary fix!!

gonna mount to the ends and not the bars. the cross bars will just touch the bottom of the basket.
