How do you store your (deep) sockets?

I don't need a ton, but I do need a few.

Astro vans have more than a few tight corners, so there are several places where a normal socket won't grab the fastener and there isn't room to come at it from the side with a wrench. Believe me, I tried going without for as long as I could, but after having to go back to the main tool box more than a couple of times, that means I need that tool in the van.

Sure, that's what I was getting at, just carry what your rig needs. While sometimes it is nice to have tools to fit other peoples rigs, I don't see it as a reason to carry all the sizes.

Here's an option for your socket storage conundrum.

Depending on the deep well socket sizes, the ShopRoll socket pockets will hold upto 12-15 sockets or they could be placed in the large zippered pouch if you need more storage.

Kudos to everyone with pristine tools and tool rolls. Mine tool rolls and tanker tool bag are a sandy, greasy and pet hair ridden mess in comparison.

Well, I'm glad I sorted this out when I did.

Had a minor mechanical issue at the Desert Rendezvous this weekend. Among the tools I needed to use to (finish) removing the dragging rear shock, then replace it back in town, was my 19mm deep socket.

I ended up using the Home Depot document bag and cut-down socket rails - mostly down to cost - $3 for the bag, and I had unused rails sitting in my tool drawer. Not a great picture, but you can see it on the right of the tarp here. Having the right tools is key, but making them easy to store and find in the vehicle means they're more likely to be at hand when needed.

After replacing the factory scissor jack with a bottle jack, the stock jack compartment holds all the above tools, (plus a few not shown), plus the OEM jack wrench which I still use to lower the spare tire.

To answer your deep socket question, I keep mine in the plastic clip rack they came in when I bought them. Haven't had a problem with them yet.

Another option, since you don't seem to like the strip storage, is getting a military tool bag. Many of them come with pockets specifically sized to hold individual deep well sockets in both standard and metric sizes. The bag I keep my winch gear in does at least.

I keep all my tools in a military-ish satchel. Plenty of room to store my common use bulky stuff with pockets for my more specialized tools. I even keep a cheap flashlight strapped to the outside as a carrying handle.

All packed up. The shoulder strap makes carrying this bulk around much easier than my old craftsman toolbox.
