Texas Mile weekend...
Went out to see the sights at the Texas Mile event in Beeville this past weekend. The Mile is a standing-start event where one vehicle at a time runs to see what speed they can achieve over the distance of a mile. The current event record around of 324mph (IIRC) was achieved several years ago by some kind Top Fuel-looking rail with no tall wing on the back. They've had several turbocharged motorcycles run in the 250s-260s in the past as well.
We'll get the obvious out of the way first...
...and then move on to more interesting things. Like the LS9 motor in a '69 Camaro! :Wow1: Unfortunately we were so goggled by the appearance of the motor that no one took a picture of the actual car.
Lots of carbon fiber and taped seams were on hand.
You never know what you're going to see at events like this. Lovin' the Malibu Wagon who went 140-something.
Like I said,
lots of interesting wheels just sitting around, waiting for their picture to be taken!
And let you tell you something... After watching/hearing two dozen bikes and cars fly down a runway at speeds ranging from 150mph to 210mph, you
feel the difference when suddenly the next car goes smoking by
even faster. Everybody stops in their tracks to watch it go by and you already know it's faster than everything that went before when event's speed display pops up with
244mph for the Nissan GT-R with a drag chute hanging off the back.
NOTE:
Some of the pics were taken with my phone and they're the slightly overexposed ones. The rest (mostly closeups) were taken with Jeff's DSLR and the colors in those are obviously much better.
