How I wish my Dak. would look

That is similar to what i have in mind for mine also but my drawings are alot worse. Why not use a full length roof rack instead of seperate ones on the shell and cab though

Ideally I want to still be able to remove the cap when home improvements becon or I get appliances or something.

Even though I really dig having a cap on the back, I'd much rather not have the cap on year round, mostly fall/winter and on trips where I'd be hauling a lot of gear and the dogs. During the summer I'd like to leave it off and move the bike mounting into the bed. Who knows...? I don't see me having the money to do all I want, but it's nice to dream and what I have right now is pretty darn useful.

There seems to be a body of though that says it's inadvisable to attach a roof rack to the cab and the shell. Something to do with the way the two vibrate and move in different ways.

The suggestion is to mount the front to the cab and the back portion to the body/chassis via some sort of modified roll bar.

I'm not convinced by the argument that you can't attach the front to the cab and the back to the shell.

Anyone have any feedback on this that is fact based rather than anecdotal?

i have seen the two flex significantly from each other but I would rather not mount to the actual shell or cab anyway. Either mounting to the bed with a overhang onto the cab or down to the frame at all 4 corners

One of the reasons for the roof rack is because I want to be able to take elevated photos and having that in mind the ladder is a def. big help. It looks cool too! :victory:

I wouldn't want a steel rack though, I don't think, if I get it done I'd want to seriously consider aluminum so that it doesn't weigh the truck down more than it already is.
