if that can help...I have a Bigfoot 2500 with a "full size" door and I hit my head on that door more times than I can remember....and I am not even that tall.

IMHO the Starcraft setup looks like the best compromise, taller than the FWC door but not quite as tall and once piece fold up panel compared to the Palomino accordion wall. The issue with Palomino as I learned is when the wall gets weak the whole back starts to spread out. Ours got to where the door wouldn't stay shut when driving, too much play in the multiple hinges too. My thought is to convert to the one piece starcraft style with god hinges and a diagonal brace inside the upper walls to prevent flex.

I'm pretty sure I don't have that gap. I think it's one continuous piece of material around the perimeter. I'll check the next time I pop it up.

I use a scissor step: http://www.crbrophy.com/stairs.html
I like it alot. Makes it real easy to get in and out and easy to store.

I can close the tailgate with my SunLite camper, my wife and I both like using the tailgate as a mini porch. I'm getting old and fat, I did lots's of looking at different steps, I finally decided to just use a Werner platform. Full door would be nice, you get used to the short on quickly.

Seems like we had more problem with head issues when we had our Chevy S-10 and FWC. Smaller door then the standard truck camper. When we had the FP not so much head banging as scraping the back when getting in. Both of us are 6ft + so figured that was a given. Now we have a full size Chevy and a Palomino Bronco so not a problem there. Splurged on a Little Giant 3 step safety step so even the dog can get in without help. http://www.littlegiantladder.com/little-giant/safety-step-ladder.html The 3 step at 27 tall brings the last step into close proximity to the camper door. Don't have a good close up but here is a pic of the step in use at Pine Grove NV.
