How many vans do you need? Just purchased - 1997 EB 4x4

Well i recently finished building my 1991 4x4 camper van (link to it here http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/t ... -Body-Swap) but i'm always looking at what comes up for sale. I found this Sportsmobile on craigslist for what i feel was a smokin deal, they were just leaving Alaska to drive it down to the northern states for a holiday. I had them meet me on their way through, i told them i'd take it and we met the next day in Great Falls Montana where they bought a new Toyota off the lot for the rest of their trip and to take them back home to Alaska. Here's a couple of quick pictures i took on the way home, i'll get some of the interior soon. It'll be fun the next little while doing some mods to make it my own.

At least someone on this forum bought this van. They may have mentioned that there was a guy in Michigan that had already said he would buy it. They were holed up for a few days due to weather and when I finally re-connected with them they said they had a deal they couldn't refuse and made it happen. I guess you saved me the airline ticket from Detroit to Minneapolis.

Hope you have a great time with the van. If you decide you want to off the thing let me know.

They mentioned that they had lots of interest in it. I got a hold of them just as they were leaving Alaska and said i'd take it and then didn't hear from them for days and thought the deal went south but they were just out of service for those days. It just worked out that they had to drive through where i live here in Alberta on their way south. I even told them they could drive it to Minneapolis and i'd fly out to get it. Its a great van, they kept in excellent condition and well maintained. I'm sure i'll keep it around for a while.

I still have plenty to do but here are some updated pictures from today. Fixed the rear air bags, installed the front grille guard and tail light guards, running boards, mud flaps (for protection and to stay legal) and re-installed the starcool condensor and new fan, flares, wheels and tires, hood and side wind deflectors. Also finally took some pictures of the interior.

Wow. Nice van.

I agree about the accent stripe. In the first (stock) pic it gives it that "old couple" foofy look. But after changing the running boards to black, adding the black wheels and other accents, the stripe really works. Like the choice of black with chrome wheels too, for that particular van. You've got good vision.

How tall are the tires?

Which engine and how does it compare to your other van's power?

What gear ratio?

Looks like you painted the hitch reciever, too, or is that just the lighting in the pic?

After you let me barrow that beauty for a few weeks I'll know which floorplan I like best. :coffeedrink:

Catmandu, sorry you had to miss out. I kow the feeling.

Ya i did paint the receiver, good eye :)
The stripe is growing on me as well more recently.

The tires are 265/75/16 E-Rated

Motor is a 5.4 gasser, and actually does quite well. I was keeping my eye open for a 7.3 diesel but couldn't pass this one up.

Gears are 3.73

Thanks for the complements, i've been watching the progression of your astro and was close to going that route. You've got a great looking rig.

Great looking van! Looks like you're ready for adventure :)

Where did you get the grill guard and tail light guards from?

I got both of them from Black Horse Off Road. Go Rhino had one but it didn't have the small upper bar (they call it a euro bar), just a small cosmetic preference. With my van being 4x4 there was a lot of welding and cutting to get the grille guard mounted.

Well if two vans wasn't classified as an addiction, maybe three vans does. I just Picked up this one owner low mile 96 converted by Advanced in SLC. Its a passenger with 4 buckets and 2 benches loaded up for the year even with power front seats.

Man all of these 4x4 vans really get me thinking. So cool! I wish I had the $$ anda van to drop off at Colorado Camper vans every time I look at these post.
