How much can we go above GVWR??

You can see I'm an engineer I think too much :sombrero: I should just load it up and keep an eye on everything. I bet they will do what you said, public spec 5500lbs, internal spec 6500lbs just to make sure their stuff does not break at 5800lbs. :)

Oh man,     your first paragraph (which I deleted here) had my eyes glazing over. I was thinking to myself, "this guy must be an engineer" and then you say "I'm an engineer" Too funny:hehe: After reading your first paragraph again, I got the gist of it, although glad you used the layman's maxim of "they don't make it like they used to"...interesting stuff you wrote!

Ha ha ha, I'm a Chink from Taiwan now live in San Jose, glad you can understand and have fun reading what I worte in English! :luxhello:

RE: FEA

Junk in = junk out.

Sure, those bearings will hold your truck up when it weighs 9900 pounds....on a smooth road. But will they continue to hold the truck up when it weighs 9900 pounds while running 55mph headed south out of San Felipe? Those bushings will put up with 250K worth of pavement, but will they put up with 25K worth of washboard road?

So I guess the question is, did the engineer design a part to handle the use that the 1% of owners will subject their vehicles to? Or did they simply build for the 99%, figuring that the cost savings will pay for any warranty repairs for the 1%?

And the next question is, did the buyer actually use the spec that the engineer made, or did they "find a good deal on a part that is almost like the one the engineer designed".

That's a whole other can of worms........... I won't touch that one.:ylsmoke:

In this case let's assume the FEA is done correctly. :smiley_drive:

I just want to make sure after loading the truck with camper and gear I won't have the frame broke in half on fire road and my wife yelling at me " I told you so!!!!". :D

Yea, you should probably avoid that scenario if at all possible.:peepwall:
