How To: Adding a Cabin Filter to Gen III Montero

My Montero has the same brackets. I just reinstalled them after installing the cabin air filter.
It looked like they could be stiffeners/reenforcement for the dash, or perhaps supports for the glovebox when it's closed, but not sure.

I couldn't find the Bosch one in the USA after only a quick search. I did find this one on Amazon that cross references to the Mitsubishi number for $11.50 shipped (not Prime) : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XXDYVM8 I should have it in a week and will report back on its fitment.

That's the one I installed on my 2001 Limited. Has worked fine. I even left a review on Amazon, a robust 4 out of 5 stars.
