How to convert to LED turn signals and brake lights for Gen 2 Montero

If you're interested in installing LED turn signal and brake lights on your truck, I just posted about it in the General Vehicle Modifications forum. I used my Montero as an example, so if you have a Gen2 (1992–1997) the post is tailor-made for you.

I tried cross posting it here but the photos didn't show up, so here's a link.

Nice write-up Nik. Where did you find the light output numbers for the incandescent bulbs? It's too bad the current crop of LED replacement bulbs are not as bright as the incandescent bulbs...

Thanks — glad you liked it. Check the links in the text. They'll take you to the source pages for lumen numbers.

Ah, I see. Thanks! Recently I upgraded my interior lighting and while the resulting light isn't really 'better' than OE, it's bright enough and is draws a lot less power... although I realize in the grand scheme of things the power difference is probably inconsequential.

True — it probably doesn't make a difference on a day-to-day basis but, if you ever forget and leave your interior lights on all night, your battery won't be dead in the morning. Maybe that will come in handy one day.

Very good! Although people with cruise control may find that the cruise control doesn't work with LED brake lights. I'd say the the cruise control is grounded through the brake lights.

I've found that those led replacements don't last too long, and it's usually the build quality that lets them down. I had the amber LEDs in my parking lights, and they blew after 4 months. When I opened them up I found that one of them, the PCB had been cut too small, and there were lengths of wire soldered on because some of the tracks were gone with it,and the other one the solder had been used so sparingly that the LEDs could pretty much be pulled out, blow holes left right and centre.
