How to corrosion-proof a saltwater beach truck?

Redthies: Spot on with Cairns - got it first time :). What's your experience with this end of the world? I'd love to go see Whistler one day - I've never been to Canada, but it's somewhere I've always wanted to go.

Thanks for the tip about the Fluid Film - I should have done my research before posting :smilies27 . I hope it works out for you. I've had a good run with the stuff I use, but I don't see the same conditions that you get either. As mentioned, I've got no idea how those folks who live with snow cope with it at all - terrible stuff.

Cheers,
Matto :)

Thanks Matto!

I hear that part about the white billowing clouds of smoke. My Suburban looks and smells like a deep-fryer on fire after the linseed oil treatment, when it pulls to a stop!

I think I am going to stick with the raw linseed oil. It does actually seem to dry after a week or so, it's cheap at $25/g, and it's locally available. Plus it has an organic, almost food-like odor that get people eying the truck as if saying, "What the hell is going on here?" LOL

I grew up in Corpus Christi. Had an '88 Ranger 4x4 when I was in high school and that truck spent more time at the beach than anywhere else. I was always at all the surfing spots, PINS, Big Shell, etc. After a couple years it never showed any rust. I just made sure to do the underbody spray at the car wash in Flour Bluff after every beach trip, along with a hose down, and sometimes I put a sprinkler under the truck when parked at home if it was a wet day at the beach or I hit the water with the truck. I was pretty good about cleaning the undercarriages of my vehicles, but I never used any type of barrier or anything.

Krown t-40, I get all my vehicles Krowned yearly as I live in the salt capital of Canada. Other family members have been getting there vehicles Krowned religiously for 25yrs the stuff works great. I have a 1998 Silverado that has been Krowned from day one and it shows very very minor rust, 4-5 year old trucks around here have more rust on them.

I get mine done twice a year in the fall before winter and springtime. Best product on the market for rustproofing I've tried them all.

Cool. I know the Flour Bluff car wash... used it many times to get the worst of the seaweed crap off. That water tastes salty, too, coming out of the nozzle.

So far the linseed oil seems better than nothing. Got 2 coats so far, still smells like french fries.
