How to fix a broken tie rod

Has anyone, who owns a GM truck, broken a tie rod on the trail? If so how do you fix that to get yourself off the trail? Are people carrying spares or is there some magic trick:Mechanic:

Stainless steel tie rod sleeves
Its a well known fact that the GM inner tie rods are pretty wimpy. Under extreme use they can bend or even break, leaving you stuck. These easy to install sleeves thread onto the inner tie rod making it nearly impossible to break or bend.

Made from high quality 304 Stainless steel for long lasting good looks, but more importantly, easy to service.
Inexpensive insurance :)

Add to that some trail experience and a light foot on the skinny pedal. That should improve your durability.

Hey SoCal, I haven't bent or broken a tie rod on my Avalanche yet, (knock on wood) but the common consensus is that those inner tie rods are definitely a weak link in the GM front end. I know HenryJ has put tie rod sleeves on his Av as preventative maintenance... Hopefully he will post up.

I'm pretty sure he got these:

and he has some pics here somewhere. If you search "avalanche" your bound to come up with his thread.

Glad to see another Av here! :victory:
